Hi

I am looking at some new alloys for a 964 and wanted to know whether this combination would fit on a 964 C2 Targa, wheels at the moment are 225/50 r16 on the rear and 205/55 r16 on the front.

Ones I have been looking at are
225/40 r18 on the front on a 18x8 with ET of 52 and 275/35 r18 on the rear on a 18x9.5 with ET of 47

Thanks
D

I wouldn't recommend 18s on a narrow body 964 as they ruin the ride. There are lots of 17s which look good and you will have the added bonus of saving some money.

Another consideration is weight of the wheels. Some of the 17" cup 1 replicas weight a ton. If you like the look of the techart formula wheels then worth contacting them. They offered me a great deal on some recently but they were heavier than I wanted. Otherwise there are loads of 996, 993 and 964 17" wheels to choose from secondhand. Most need a refurb though.

(Lightweight) Cup 2's look good on a 964. I've got a couple of sets that will fit perfectly, both with n-rated Continentals. Not cheap though.

How much is not cheap? Are both wheels and Cont's in very good order (wheels not needing a refurb' 5mm+ on the tyres)?

The wheel offsets are fine although the 275/40 tyre on the rear is a little unusual - most often 265/35 is used. I'm really surprised you have a 275/50 on a 16" rim which is going to be a maximum of 8" wide. The standard 16" tyres on a 964 Design 90/Cup 1 wheels were 205/55 and 225/50.

Aren't they 993 wheels, which need spacers on the rear? That's not a problem of course and they look good, but I ask as I once unknowingly put standard 993 wheels on a 964 and when I heard the rears rubbing on the inner wheelarches I looked into why, and needed spacers.

Yes, they're 993 wheels. A rear 9J wheel with an ET of 55 works okay with 255 x 40 profile tyres. 7J Fronts are ET55 with 205 x 50 x 17.

The early 993 Cup 2 wheels had a rear ET of 70, which will bring the wheels inside the arches more.

Oh really? I've got 18s on my narrow body 964 and the ride is great. KW suspension though - can't comment on stock.

That Veloce offset is designed to bolt straight onto a 964. The only problem you will have is if you lower the car too much you will get some rubbing that will involve a mixture of camber adjustment and/or arch rolling to resolve.

Need new tyres for 1990 964 C2 above. Are these 993 wheels? Currently has dissimilar Falken tyres, Front - 225/45 ZR17 94Y, Rear 255/40 ZR17 94W.

The car has also been lowered, did these come with adjustable platforms as standard?

I intend to replace with "N" rated tyres, what size should I get? What are the ideal load rating and speed ratings? Any brands/ fitters recommended.

Yup, they're 993 wheels. Your tyre sizes are correct.

Regarding the original question, has to be Cup 1s on a 964 for me..

Cup 1's (originals) are probably slightly better looks wise for me, but 993's are good too (was considering them when I had my targa), and are lighter than cup 1's.
