Carrera 991 S PDK vs Porsche GT3 RS
Discussion
Mid-Sussex lent me a 991 PDK S for a day when my car was being serviced. I put two tanks of shell's finest through it rather than go to work and it was blisteringly quick. I've not owned a turbo, but it was in a different league to my 997 manual C2S, I mean a totally different class.
Mid range was simply bloody awesome and my car felt quite slow once I got back in it at the end of the day.
What on earth will the new Turbo/GT3 be like? I can't begin to imagine, as they've got to be better than a PDK S otherwise I'd save some £'s and buy just that.

Excellent (but slightly naughty) video
I'd rather have ( / be in / be driving) the GT3 RS though, not bothered in the slightest that it's a bit slower. Also, I agree, the next GT3 / GT2 / Turbo 991's are going to have to be absofkkinlute animals to keep the 991 S in it's place in the 911 hierarchy.

Same here. The GT3 is fast but not meant for pure straight line speed like a 991 S PDK or Turbo. But different cars for different people. People don't always want a GT3 to commute or need 2 rear seats for kids.

It's going to be interesting to see how the new GT3 and Turbos stack up.
Koing
It is frustrating. It looks to me like the 991 has the edge when they overtake - i think the 991 is dropping at least 1 gear, while i'm not sure the GT3 is - that explains why the 991 gains. It also has a small torque advantage in certain situations. You can see when the speed increases and the revs build, the GT3 starts topull away - as it would with 50bhp more and less weight...
What this video does show, as many have said, is that the 991 is very fast in a straight line, esp with PDK. It also confirms what people have said previously is that you need 100bhp more than another car to pull away at any pace.

Mine goes in for a major service next month and they are giving me a 991S PDK for the 2 days.
I really hope I don't like
Don't worry, you'll find it incredibly capable, but a little boring next to a GT3. It has some lovely features like the crackle on overrun, sharp turn-in and the new interior, but it lacks that heavy-set feel of a GTx car.I really hope I don't like

I thought the rS driver was incredibly crap and an accident waiting to happen! Why he's trying to large it with so much traffic around is beyond me.mrdemon said:
PDK is fast.
8.4 to 100mph that's faster than a 997.1 turbo lol
GT3's are not that fast in a straight line.
I love the 991 S PDK and it is definitely a much better car than a 997.1 turbo no question. However having had a 991 S PDK for a few days I can categorically confirm as far as all the downsides go with 997.1 turbo the 991 would simply be left for dead on same roads as in the video in my humble opinion. 991 still the better car though as speed isnt everything.8.4 to 100mph that's faster than a 997.1 turbo lol

I know a lot of the 991's glory goes to the PDK box, but...
My 2p - from owning a GTS (with the same power-to-weight ratio as the 991S) and also a GT3.2, is that the GT3 was MUCH quicker from 50mph (end-of-2nd gear onwards). This was also confirmed at Vmax going up against luckyp in his GT3.2. His GT3 pulled a HUGE gap on my GTS. Now, this RS in the clip has more power than a standard GT3.2, the 991S has the same as the GTS, but if anything, in the vid i'd say the 991 has the edge.
So, either that 991 has more than the 400hp, or that RS driver doesn't know how, and when, to change cogs

One magazine tested tested 991 carrera S manual and cayman R PDK. Cayman R was faster to 60 mph. Of course speed of manual depends on driver but car journalists are not usually novice drivers. GT3 with PDK would be epic!
how evey fast you are with a manual you still loose 3/10th of a second every gear change. As I have said before the Cayman R is a stunning car, it's a lot faster in the real world than it's on paper stat.
