This company is raved about on the Merc forums. They are based in bucks not too far from me. Anyone used them on their Porsche?
Was considering CG but this place is half the price and much more local so having second thoughts...
Any views?
I've used them on my 928GTS and was thoroughly impressed with them. My friend has used them on his Fezza and is happy to. Go for it.Was considering CG but this place is half the price and much more local so having second thoughts...

Sorry. They are very good but usually as soon as alignment is mentioned, someone claims that CG are the only trustworthy source....
Exactly - that is the myth (be it or not) that I am trying to get to the bottom of...I have been brainwashed like everyone else on here. And only booked into CG as I thought it was only place that would be up to scratch...and if I did it elsewhere I would always wonder what if I had gone to CG...I don't mind paying the money, but are they really double as good as WIM?Porkupine said:

I guess it's all down to your end use. When I first replaced the 4 tires on the GTS I had them done at Elite Wheels in Dagenham as they were good value for tyres and used them before on GTiR and Griff. I ended up paying £270 odd for 4 wheel laser alignment etc. Ouch

Went to WIM a couple of years later and they knew 928's and their nuances. Flat rate of £150 I seem to recall and the service was great. For me I don't track the car so don't need the ultimate perfect setup.
Next time I need them done I'll get them done at WIM.
I think it is one of those things...having read so much on here about CG, if I do not go there, I will have a small doubt in the back of my mind that the car is not as well set up as it could be...this may be a little irrational!
I will not use on track and it is for road use, I just want to eliminate a little of the twitchyness I feel in the steering over every little bump, and I am guessing that either would be fine for this...WIM or CG. What do you think?

TBH you can't go wrong with either but as yo say if you need to scratch that itch, then it has to be CG for you. I used CG and was delighted. Doesn't mean no one else can do an excellent job though. One thing you may wish to consider is that CG have set up a huge variety of Porsches from one extreme to the other. This means he knows exactly how to dial in what you want. He also impressed me by being able to perfectly assess my car in 15 minutes which shows experience.

Used them on my GT3 twice, very good service, very good results.
Thanks for all replies...except Nick..Why you used them twice? Did they not get it right or just needed re-doing after some time? I was hoping once done that would be it!
king rat race... takes me away from talking about cars... :-))I used to use them for my little old Mk1 MX5 R-Limited (RIP), so when I got the GT3 they seemed the obvious place to go. I went there and they did a great job setting the car up, they have all the latest laser equipment and know what they're doing - before they make any adjustments they'll talk you through what the existing alignment is like and then tell you exactly what they are going to do / what you want to do. I told them I wanted a decent 'fast road' type of set up and that's what I got. Price as I think you said earlier was quite reasonable too. I visited them the second time as I hit a pot hole at about 60mph and burst a tyre - I figured I should get my alignment checked in case I'd thrown anything out (which incidentally I had, so glad I went back).

We should team up! I am in the identical position as you.I will not use on track and it is for road use, I just want to eliminate a little of the twitchyness I feel in the steering over every little bump, and I am guessing that either would be fine for this...WIM or CG. What do you think?
I phoned up four reccomended sources for alignment, the results were as follows (all prices inc VAT):
GoG: £300, ~4 hour job, lead time 5 weeks
Parr: £255, ~2.5 hour job, lead time 2 weeks
JZM: £260, 3 hour job, lead time 1 week
WiM: £220, 1.5 hour job, lead time 2 days (2 weeks if Sat)
So, on face value it would seem that CoG is the place where they spend most time on the car. They come out with you on a drive before & after and they provide a fully detailed level of service. Whether this is essential on a road car is very open to question, but I like the idea of it anyways (all the best for my 'baby'). Talking with Roger at Parr also instilled confidence. JZM I only got to speak with the secretary and, from experience in the past, they are have a keen eye for spotting items which may need replacement (too keen?).
I have used WiM for non-Porsche cars in the past and, while being very good, I think they only concentrate on the alignment aspect but don't necessarily look into detail at the rest of the suspension condition etc. Personally I wasn't too impressed by the attitude of some of the more junior guys but Tony (Bones, there wete 2 Tonys) is a good chap.
So, in conclusion, I want to take my car to CoG this time but its not so close to London so I'm demuring on whether to take it to Parr as they are close to Gatwick which is useful for me.
