In the time it's taken you to write that, you could have called Joel and asked him directly, he's the only one that can answer it !

I'm guessing as they have their own workshop they'd want any work done there, but as I said, it's a guess.

For what it's worth, I came close to buying a car from Joel recently and having seen the level of prep and quality of his stock I would have no issue in buying from a distance from him without seeing it in the flesh(naturally other dealers are available etc etc before I get flamed)

Joel has said on here before that a lot of people buy cars from RSJ unseen, over the phone.

When I bought, I had a Peter Morgan inspection and RSJ tidied up everything that that picked up. Although I did see the car and drive it pre-purchase, were I doing the whole thing second time around with RSJ I would regard the viewing* and driving as desirable but not essential.

  • unless it was a colour or colour combo I had not seen or wasn't sure about, I suppose.

I thought RSJ didn't/wouldn't offer a warranty?

(I'm not sure on this, so I tried looking back for the old thread but it's been removed)

They don't need to; you're covered under the sale of goods act. If a dealer sells you a pup they're liable by law to fix or replace. There are the usual caveats, like with any additional warranty, but you're covered nonetheless.

Thanks Rog. Yes, I'm aware of their statutory liabilities as traders, but a warranty is something else entirely.

It says quite clearly on our website that we give a 3 month warranty covering everything on our car, included in the price.

What's the difference between your warranty and your statutory obligations?

One you have to get a solicitor involved, in the other the company does the work with a smile on their face and go way beyond legal requirements and replace things like a used ciggy lighter?

You are coming in at a good time.

This year we have been planning an increase to our warranty period.
We are rolling this out tomorrow.

As of May 1st 2012 all Porsche's sold at RSJ will have the existing, EVERYTHING, covered for the first 3 months.(3000 miles),no excess, no contribution.

Also from now , we will be covering gearbox and engine internal failure, (including bore scoring) for the next 3 months (3000 to 5000 miles)(Full cover , no contribution or excess)

The next 6 months (5000 to 10000 miles) will also cover gearbox and engine internal failure , including bore scoring, and will be covering labour only. All parts will be paid for by the customer.

In the last 3 years, customers main concerns are bore scoring and we plan to lessen this worry.

Typical labour for repair of a bore scored engine is £3000.
Typical parts cost is £1500 to £2500 depending on what needs doing.

All warranty will be subject to proper use of the car.
(All rev ranges are noted by us at the point of our purchase, available for all customers to see when they collect their car)
All subject to correct oil levels being maintained.
Apparently 997,Cayman,987 DME's can record when an oil level went below the minimum level and how long it stayed there on low oil pressure.

Its a bold and scary move on our part but we are at a point where we are big enough to deal with the odd failure.
Without a shadow of a doubt NO aftermarket warranty (OPC excluded) will pay for bore-scoring as it is deemed fair wear and tear.

We plan to take independent Porsche sales and warranty to a new level.( 1 year engine & gearbox cover)

As before , all RSJ warranty is in-house,back to base, with our own technicians out of our own pocket.
NO 3rd party underwriting.

They're cumulative? Damn! I thought you had to choose one. Bugger.

Anyway: OP, you've chosen wisely and are in good hands. You're in for a real treat...
