Hi,

So, I've looked a couple of 996's now, test driven them both, and have now decided that I want a manual instead of a tip. I felt a bit disconnected in the tip really.

The manual I have so far looked at seems pretty straight, and drove well. However, there are a couple of issues.
Firstly, I thought the bite on the clutch was a bit high, but that could just be me (and having never driven a manual before, difficult to say), and it had been changed 30k previously (with no mention on if RMS/IMS had been done on the receipt), so it should still be good for a few miles? There were no oil leaks I could see, but as it was wet (I know, I know), harder to tell. There certainly wasn't an oil puddle under the car!

There was a very very slight ticking coming from it at idle when it was first turned over, but I didn't hear it later on when it was warm. There was also no indication in the server history the chain guides were done, so I assume this?

The 2 main issues I have though, are - Firstly, the car seems to have sat doing nothing for at least year as there was is a gap between the MOT in 2010 and the MOT this year, with also no service stamp for 2011 (or 2008, interestingly).

Secondly - When I mentioned that I would want an independant inspection, I was told they didn't allow them. No discussion, no inspection at all. He did then offer to allow my mechanic to come along and check it over, but he isn't a Porsche specialist.

Otherwise, the car was good, everything worked, the interior was spotless and had some nice options. The exterior was pretty damned good as well, almost no stone chips etc, all looked very well maintained.

I'm leaning towards walking away, but am unsure.

Any advice?

I don't understand why anyone with a car which they reported it to be would deny you getting an independant inspection. I appreciate they dig up every imperfection but if both parties are treating it realisticly then there shouldn't be a problem at all.

I agree, and that is the thing that puts me off the most. I even said to him that I never expected it to come out perfectly etc, and that really I'm only looking for the things that could cause major bills in the near future, but nope, no dice.

There are plenty out there ! It's a buyers market,if you are usure then walk away,I do not understand why you can not get it inspected unless there are some issues.
