Just got back from my hour test drive slot in the new Boxster. The car had the 20inch wheels, PDK, and was lime gold. Currently I drive a 986 S, and have recent drives in the latest cayman and S which I imagine are very similar to the 987.

Well first impressions, what a cracking car! It looks stunning but they did have a black one in the showroom which didn't look as good as the darker colour doesn't show off the lines as much.

The car only had 60 miles on the clock so I didn't push it too hard, but in the hour test drive I was only beginning to gel with the PDK as it was adapting to my driving style. I felt if you dropped down a couple of gears and pushed the throttle about 3/4 then it would drop down and you would get a lot of noise and then after a slight delay a shove in the back from the power engaging. The interior is such a huge step forward. You seem to sit a lot lower in the car with the tops of the doors level with your shoulders which makes you feel more enclosed. It did feel quite big on the road as well especially through towns. I'm sure you would get used to the dimensions after a few days however.

The only thing I didn't like about the car was the visibility. The roll over bars and much thicker and the mesh wind deflector blocks your vision. With the roof up, it has extremely big blind spots looking over the shoulder, but then again all you need to do is put the roof down.

Overall though I was extremely impressed. I understand there is a delay with the 2.7 models at the moment and this is likely to be the one I would go for. Congratulations to any one that has one of these on order as it is a superb car! If anyone has ordered one in racing yellow and fancies selling it after a year then let me know

Was a bit worried a out visibility, I think a magazine said that too

I can't get a drive as my dealer is fully booked all week

Ours should be here in two to three weeks anyway so I'll wait

How did it sound without sports exhaust?

Did it have pasm? How was ride on 20s?

It sounded impressive as i believe it had the variable intake which filters sound into the cabin. I still think it could do with a sports exhaust but it definately sounded better than previous models.

I didn't notice if it had pasm but the ride was very good for something with such big wheels. Very comfortable and composed.

What colour did you go for?

cayman-black
