Hi all. I just bought a 996 C4S, but the remote on the key isn't working. I called my local Porsche Centre (Glasgow) and they want £270 to supply and code a key!! I paid £130 for the same thing just 3 years ago! Now that's inflation!!

I'm not sure if it's the same on a 996 but on a 9x7 you can get it working again yourself. It goes something like stick key ignition, turn it so that lights are on the dash for a few seconds, turn off, press remote to lock and then unlock and bob's your uncle, working key. I can't remember the exact sequence but it got my spare key on my 987 working again after it appeared to be dead.

Hopefully someone will be along soon with the correct sequence and you can give it a try?

Hi just priced a key remote head and blade for 996 turbo, the remote is £108.78 and blade is £75.63 both plus vat.
The 987/997 is programmed in a similar way,you can resyncronise a key that appears to be faulty by using the ignition on procedure and pushing key button, this is not programming a new key.

Fantastic! I'm offshore right now and can't try that sequence for 3 weeks!! Haha.

I'll see if one of my mates can pop by the house and try it for me.

Yep, had the old 986 for nearly seven years. It had got to 137,000 miles so chopped it in for a 987 3.4S smile

I got a new key blade and remote head programmed to my 996 all in for about £200 a couple of months ago at autofarm. I think they sourced it from Porsche reading.

I paid nowhere near that for just the remote part - so used the same key fob. Was £170 or so all in for that if i remember correctly.

Not sure what deal you got 3 years ago, but I bought a complete key and programming from OPC 5 years ago and it was around 240 IIRC.

Just had to have both of the fobs replaced on my 996 turbo as they had both failed (within months of each other!) - I went to PixelFix in East Kilbride, who was friendly and knowledgeable. He charged 150 for the first fob and 100 for the second - removes the alarm unit to read the factory coding, then uses that to program in the new fob units as per normal

Drive in, drive out 30 mins later - very satisfied!
