http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3572810.htm This one, does it have history? Notice he has just reduced the price, looks like a dealer but could it make a nice car? Someone tell me to stop looking at it and walk away, I have no room for it!!

I imagine it is the milage but it's been looked after so that doesn't really matter. Looks like a good car to me.

On paper it looks to be a good car with nice history and at that price you could put money aside to have a few things fixed. If the mileage is a concern (doesnt both me. I would think some suspension components will be up for renewal and maybe brakes so a couple of grand to be spent. An independant inspection would let you know the size of any likely expenditure. Maybe somebody has been down that path, didnt like what they heard and thats why its still for sale.
BTW I wish you hadnt pointed this out to me..like you I have no room for another car and the new Boxster arrives in July!
I've had two 993's, the last was a bog standard none vario C2 and I still miss the thing.

Hint. Check the scuttle for rot and ensure it has uninterrupted service history...the former is not cheap to fix and even just one spot of rust means there is more lurking...the latter is perhaps not such an issue.

Eta, he isn't a dealer.

Agree, price and the length of time it has been on sale does not stack up with the description. A lot of these cars have bits of corrosion (scuttle panel / windscreen surround as has been mentioned). Only evident on inspection of the actual cars and not on photographs.

Would be interested to hear from someone who has actually seen the car.

Don't know the car but being in Cornwall probably isn't helping....I certainly wouldn't drive down that far to find out it was not what I was expecting....I'd get some close ups of the usual rust areas emailed to me...ie front and rear screen surrounds, front scuttle, window frames etc. Location coupled with mileage, history looks good but no bill after 2010....these things need annual services.

I have been trying to justify this car to myself for about 2 months, I really want another 993 to keep but I just can't justify the £23,750 for a 140k car

I suspect I May regret this as my father did when he swapped one of his cobras in then1970's for a new xjs !!!

Being in Cornwall generally puts the price of a car up, as there isn't a lot of choice when it comes to buying locally.

Limits the market though....just makes it hard to go see the car if you're not close

I owned the car 3 plus years ago....spent loads getting the body right, it's had more spent since on suspension etc

The car has been discussed  a number of times on PH over the past 2 years...In fact I think the last thread was about 6 weeks ago

Hey guys that is my car,it is a very genuine example and I have been half heartedly advertising on and off, always bottling out from selling as I know how much it would cost to replace. They only made 181 of these and it has a high specification.

I could have sold it last month, but after looking at a couple of low mileage examples decided it was not worth the extra £10-20k, so I kept it.

I am now interested in getting an earlier 911S model hence the sale, but if people are turning thier noses up without seeing the car because of the mileage, maybe I shold just keep it, after all £23950 is not a lot of money when some are fetching nearly twice as much and most are fetching at least half as much again.

Anyone who knows the 993 engine will tell you they are good for interstellar mileages.

Incidently no one has yet had the car inspected professionally and turned it down, if anyone wants to give me a call and discuss any points that is fine as I am well aware Cornwall is not a 5 minute journey!

I considered this car ages ago as a straight swap for my then owned Supersport, but i guess its the miles that puts people off, as its been for sale on and off for over 3 yrs ago its done Millenium Falcon mileage not that should be an issue, i have also spoke to Paul about it and he's a nice guy who knows his stuff.

Thanks Crimp, I know you only said that because you are still lusting after the fuller figure!

And to the chap who said you could get a 996 tubo, that is fair enough, but I can say that the last 996 I owned would now worth less than half, whereas virtually every aircooled I ever sold is now worth more than I sold it for..

Yes it still has the original windscreen and there is a tiny bit of corrosion that should be dealt with in the next few years, but no big deal. I saw a 45000 mile car the other day and that had just been done for same thing, cost £700 if you are wise. Every 993 has vitually the same idiosincricies irespective of mileage.

As a genuine enthusiast and person who loves aircooled stuff, I am torn as to whether to keep this car and get a new pair of sandles. I definitely feel the need to try and get a nice 2.4S though.
