There is a large puddle of water in the front boot of my Gen 2 Boxster,

Can't seem to see where its coming from, eveything seems to be dry around the boot lid itself.

Any ideas?

Could be the drain holes under the battery are blocked. This is quite common incidently.

Thanks taken the car to my local OPC, would a car cover stop this from happening again?

You need to clean the blocked holes being careful not to push the rubber sleeve through the bulk head.
A cover will help when its parked up, but if you're out in the rain the boot will flood again.
You need to look at these rather than just getting a cover. If they are blocked it can lead to water in the passenger compartment as well , the ecu lives under one of the seats and you don't want it getting wet.

..yes, take the battery tray lid off, and look for 2 holes either side of the battery, they are the drains, and will be full of leaves and rubbish, find a stick and just push them thro', you will be left with all the water ingress in the boot well tho' so you will need to take all the carpets out and the spare wheel etc to let it dry out..

OPC Swindon mentioned to me that they always clear out drain holes etc whenever they do anything serious on a car - service, Brakes etc. And at no charge.

Yep, as others have said dead easy to do. My 996 had the same problem although luckily I sorted it out before the water got into the carpets. It was actually glass from a previous smashed screen - loads of it blocking the holes. I only found it because the screen fitter forgot to reconnect the washers and I was looking to see why the washers were not working. Water all around battery not draining because of blocked drain picks sorted in 5 minutes.

..you were lucky on a 996, if you leave it too long the battery tray overflows, and the water runs down into the PCM / amplifier module, mine was fooked, new amp required.. !

I had my drains cleaned about 2 weeks ago, and just checked the front boot and there seems to be water in the boot again, all the drains are clear,

Any ideas on what else it could be ?

Depends which way you park it and how hard the rain.
i have had the problem for over 5 years now. I used a digital camera scope and a garden hose and have found the problem.

Lift the front boot lid and look at the revers side of the lid. Take spacial note of where the rubber seal sits against the inner side of the hood. You will notice its nice and flat , no problems there then........it might seem. However take a closer look. the smooth surface the seal sits against is in fact part of the hood shell. Its not fastened to the outer skin in almost all places. with the hood closed its possible to thread a wire from the outside of the hood and go between the hood skin and the shell of the hood. So driving hard rain especially facing down a slope can and does seep down the inner side of the hood skin and goes over the shell of the hood that the seals sit against. Hence dripping into the luggage compartment.
Once you have a close look you will see that no part of the hood shell is sealed against the hood skin. due to the way the hood shell is manufactured it would be a complicated job to seal all the different combinations of gaps.
I'm surprised there aren't more people with the same problem.
I did the same as you and cleaned all the drains etc to no avail so I used my boroscope to see what exactly was going on.
So there you have it. Have a closer look and you will see what I mean.

It's parked in the driveway with no cover, there seems to be water under the carpets on the floor but the upper part of the boot is dry, so it's just the floor.

Just checked the seals and they seem fine, no signs of any water around the boot lid, lifted the carpets and there plenty of water underneath on the floor, can't work out were it's coming from

Its dripping from the hood down and onto the carpet. Same as mine. No signs of any water or wet patches just a wet floor. I watched it dripping with my boroscope. For now I keep a towel on under the carpet and change it after heavy rain.
To start with I even talcum poweded the seals to see if the water would wash the talk off but its bone dry arround the seals as they are working. the water is going in between the seal and the room skin.
