Afternoon all,

Ive been looking at 987’s for sale at OPC’s and respected independents. OPC’s prices look very strong but I do realise that you get 2 years warranty with the car.

In your experience how much haggling margin do you think an OPC dealer would have on a 18-20k boxster with no trade in?

Thanks in advance.

Not much scope for haggling in general - typically you can move them down a bit if they have been sitting on the car for a while though. If it is new in then your chances are not great though.

It depends...

I can only speak about a couple of specific examples and I had a trade in, but a 2009 2.9 car I test drove which was listed at £29.9k was offered to me at £25k. It had been in stock a while though. On the other hand the car I ended up buying was listed at £25k and there was no movement, though because I'd been following the market for a while I knew it had been advertised @ £30k only a month earlier. They both offered me a fair value for my trade-in - perhaps £500 less than I might have made in a private sale.

Every car will have a different markup - the only way to find out (apart from a FIGHT) is .......... HAGGLE - whats the worst that could happen?

+ don't forget the usual point around monthly targets ie in a poor month a dealer will be more open to negotiation if they can close an extra sale before month end. It worked for me..

If my experience is anything to go by make a cheeky bid....they will more than likely turn you down at first but in a lot of cases after a couple of weeks when the cars still there you might just end up paying what you originally wanted. As much as dealers try to say otherwise it's a buyers market at present, keep the ball in your court!

And on the point of doing the deal always squeeze a freebie - perhaps a trip to the Experience Centre at Silverstone, or some espresso mugs...anything.

FWIW I think you're more likely to get a great deal on a new car than a second hand one from an OPC. Always worth a haggle at any rate.
