GT3 change to wide body?

correct if wrong, but all you need are the rear quarter panels, bumper, and more aggressive rear wheel spacers right? what's so intricate aboutthis?
But the rear quarter panel runs over the roof and back down the A pillar. Big job surely.Did RUF not do some bolt-on wide body panels for the 996?

You have to cut the existing arches off, and then line up and attach new arches on, these go up higher than you think. Then different liners, wider track, has to be perfectly smoothed then painted.
I wouldnt want to chop up a 1 owner GT3....
I've a GT3 since new , collected at the factory and kinda understand the OP s position. It makes NO commercial sence but its his car, he intends to keep it and he understands the financial loss so let him do it. For the same reasons I considered changing mine to LHD, no sense money wise but I want to keep MY car.
dont see what the big deal is, a decent bodyshop could do it for £5-10k i bet, can't see how it wouldn't look right, it'd look exactly the same as any other widebody 997 surely...
i've spent more modding my XR4i that it cost new to buy, in fact probably twice as much... doesn't make any financial sense.. nore does buying and running many cars, let alone modding!

I don't see what the problem would be. Ignore all the people who say it devalues it, if the cars a keeper it doesn't matter.
On the other side I can't really see the benefits of going wide body unless you want to race it and get the widest wheels/tyres possible under the arches.
a descent body shop would be able to do it so no one would know the difference.

replacing quarters properly involves interface with the roof, sils, door closing panels, engine compartment, rear side windows. If it's not done professionally it's a nightmare. I did it on a 911 T years ago, not for modding but due to tinworm. You could spend far more than has been suggested on here and still end up with a 'mollested' car for sale when you want to sell.........sell and buy the pucker deal......

..pointless, just sell it and buy an RS..., consider what happens when you want to sell a homegrown bitsa...
