Porsche 991 sales?
Discussion
I think they are not selling... Been offered a 1mth delivery slot few times already... As really exceptional event :-)
Very expensive with the toys... Especially as everybody seems to want the S with full spec to properly experience new model.. 95k I guesses scares some ppl off with the mixed press comments on the car. Reminds me of E92 M3.. Few numbers, too expensive to buy and run... Poor residuals.
Boxster seems to be having better time?

So the boxster, cayman and possibly a baby sports car becomes the volume models. The suv models give another line of volume models. The 911 becomes the top of the tree, aspirational, expensive but still cheaper than the other top sports car brands. Better residuals and premiuim branding.
Not a bad move considering the emerging markets mimic western customer opinions and brand image plays a huge role in making the volume models sell easily. The 911 may not be a huge volume target for porsche....It is the halo product that carries the porsche history. The 911 just needs to be really good and not so common......IMO.

Agreed, long overdue, the 997 was an epic car but too common, i think they are trying to make the 911 a bit more exclusive again, that can only be a good thing. Not a bad move considering the emerging markets mimic western customer opinions and brand image plays a huge role in making the volume models sell easily. They are about 100k arent they with a few options ?
Theres only about 3 people in the UK who can afford that along with the resultant depreciation.
I don't think that quite true. There are many people who can afford to buy a 991 but just don't think they're worth £100k.Theres only about 3 people in the UK who can afford that along with the resultant depreciation.
The price 'em high and make them exclusive/keep the residuals up theory is, at best, wishful thinking.
Hard to convince yourself a £90k 991 C2S is worth £40k more than the Boxster S ....which is stunning imo. I recon the 991 Turbo might end up being one of the best sellers in that range simply because the performance will be that much removed, it'll seem more "worth it" at £135k vs. £90k for something that's....epic performance....but not that far removed from Boxster / Cayman.

What near a £100k for a car that was £70k , the standard c2 and c4 are noting going to compete with the Aston and Ferrari so what market is Porsche pushing into? IMO they are just pushing the car out out of thier core customer market. Bottom line Porsche 997 and 991 have no better resale market than Aston or Ferrari, Lets face it 997 's at present are quite poor, even the 991 is not fetching list after only 3 months of being released which means it too is not holding resale...sign of the times. Sadly I don't think yet the 991 is proving to be a big seller, it's the cayenne and Boxster that will be the big seller for Porsche.
The Boxster is looking so good these days, and has seen minimal price inflation, and gets the same interior upgrades.
I like my 991, but I don't love it by any means. There is just something about it that I can't quite put my finger on, its just not quite as purposeful as my Cayman, and not quite as comfortable or practical as any number of other things. It feels big on the road as well to me. The styling works well in isolation(although the front is a retrograde step vs the 997 IMHO) but I don't think it can compare to the Boxster in all honesty. I can definitely see a 981 or new Cayman order coming on if they drive as well as I'm hoping they do.

They've priced it to account for pound devaluation I guess. It's certainly not got 30k more of car for the money. Which is why they will struggle to sell when combined with people paying doubt debta instead of leveraging out on cars they don't need. Good for residuals of older models though, and if Europe breaks up, new 911s are going to shoot up in cost when the DM finds fair value.

Where does the £30k differential come from? If you spec a 997 and 991 identically with standard options like PSE and SC and put Nav on the 997 to match the standard Nav on the 991, the differential is 10k. And for that you get more refinement, more power and better sound (as well as the extensively documented lack of steering feel). Get the price hike in perspective, please. They ain't selling 'cos high end cars ain't selling right now.

The 991 looks well and drives seems to drive well but it is simply too big. If I am considering a new Porsche I could easily be swayed by the new Cayman which looks sensational while offering serious performance at sensible? money . It is the new 911 imo. Oh and it does look sensational!
