I'm a true Porsche fan & would appreciate some feedback.

I am pretty content with 'my garage' but like most 'petrol heads', I am wondering what to buy next. All my cars serve the purpose for which they were intended .. 'Cayenne is great for 'trans European' journeys, the RS6 is perfect for around London, the Megane brilliant for country lanes & my 996 turbo for an occasional fun Sunday drive'. All my cars are low mileage & I have no desire for a convertible. I want to remain at no more than 4 cars.

So the question is, "which should be changed if any ? and for what ?". The cars on my horizon at the moment are a GT3 but I'd find it very hard to sell my mint condition 996 turbo even though it is a different type of drive. The new RS4 may be a possibility but again selling my RS6 would be painful.

All suggestions, however 'offbeat' gratefully received.

You use the Renault just for country lanes? In which case ditch that and get a Porsche to replace it - budget no obstacle I'd say a Boxster Spyder. If budget is an issue, maybe an S1 Elise, or a 986 Box?

New RS4 sounds disappointing. If you don't want a soft-top i'd look at a Cayman R or 1-series-M. Scrap the Renault.

Thanks for your suggestion. When I say the Renault is great for country lanes, it is because I also live in the country. Being rural, the Renault offers a great drive whist being able to take the family when necessary .. a bit of 'workhorse', and also the dog can get pretty filthy, so he just sits in the back.

In which case the Cayenne and RS6 seem too similar in purpose to me - ditch one of them. Though I'd struggle to suggest what with - something totally illogical and only for weekends? Could you run to a GT3 to go with the Turbo? Would still seem a little OTT to me - perhaps ditch the Turbo AND the RS6/KN, and get a single car to replace them both?

Actually, giving it a bit more thought... i'd buy a mint 993, or possibly a 964

I recently sold my 997 C4S and bought a 993 cab. I wasnt originally looking for a cab but saw a couple and decided that in some ways the roof down thing meant it felt more special and different from my other cars. Havent really had much weather to enjoy it but so far I am very pleased with the decision and the cost of ownership assuming minimal depreciation should be considerably less (I am almost 1k up on the road tax and the insurance alone).

I could consider switching the KN/RS6 to an E63 Estate. Good thinking.

Then I could add a GT3 or a 993 or 964. I always found the steeper windscreen & pedals strange in the pre 996 911s.

How about a Maserati GT for your european trips (don't know if you have kids)

BMW 335i for cheap car to run around london in

+ or - a GT3 if you want another more hardcore car.

I'll go with buying a GT3 but I have to work out whether to keep or sell the 996 Turbo.

I'd prefer a Maserati QuattroPorte over a GT. Cheers

i went from an RS6 (v10) to an E63 (6.2 v8) and it's a much much more enjoyable steer. so bin the KN and RS6 for one of these and a set of winter tyres.

ditch the 996 turbo for a GT3, much stronger 'sense of occassion' and more fun to drive.

and keep the Meg - great car, and worthless.

Other then the fact that you are attached to the Turbo once you own the GT3 will you ever really want to drive the turbo?

I bought an RS6 V10 in 2009 and only kept it 6 months. Preferred the old one which thankfully I kept.

Perhaps we chatted on RS246.com ?

It is over 3 years ago. I think you referred me to the dealership where I bought a Daytona Grey. I had it modified by MTM to 700 bhp
thinking it would be 'the ultimate'. Sadly it was not ... but my V8 remains an awesome drive.
