Power loss over time.
Discussion
some time ago i recall hearing somewhere that cars' power depletes over time.
that being the case, my anorak query: if a 2005 997S had 380bhp in its prime, even with festidious servicing and care, has anyone measured the pwoer production now approx 6 to 7 years' later and if so is it the same or if not, how much bhp is it please?
same query for Turbo/other 997 variant please.
Cheers.

A well designed engine maintained correctly will lose very little power. I guess the main causes of a loss of power would be;Carbon build up
bore wear lowering compression
Injectors blocked/worn
I know of many owners of 993's who have had their cars 'chipped' amd most found that on the first dyno run they were near or actually above their quoted outputs. Some of these were well over 100k miles.

I had a Mustang, at 8000 miles I supercharged it resulting in approx 570BHP. I serviced the car every 6000 miles, oil and filter. It went on the same dyno about 4 times in it's life and was only ever ran on vpower and tuned for vpower. At 53,000 miles it got it's best result ever of 576BHP. Always same dyno with correction for atmospheric conditions.
But it was stock engine internals and in 40,000 miles it lost no power either on dyno or on stats.
My 911 is a 2006 model C2S with from factory 355BHP. It has some X51 bits and dyno'd at 378BHP.
The addition of the X51 bits could be felt on the butt dyno too.
To my knowledge a car serviced on time, ran on good fuel and not abused will loose little to no power! My 911 gets an oil change every 6000 miles, 20,000 miles in my oppinion is way too long!
Unfortunately I never did a stock run, but anyone who has driven my car who has previously owned a C2S have stated it feels very quick indeed. But I'm fortunate on the weight side too as mine weighed 1440kg with everything in and 3/4 tank of fuel. I've now removed back seats and other bits, only like 15kg saving, done more so for the extra engine noise you get.
Mine shall be going back on dyno in August to check all is well, fancy coming along Mike to compare mine and yours on same dyno, same day? Shall be a Saturday!
On the other hand I've got a Jaguar S-Type 3.0 V6 which should be 231BHP, yet it dyno'd at 219BHP. It's got 140,000 miles and is 12 years old. I paid £700 for it and when purchased it was a little sluggish. So I changed oil, all filters, plugs and ran it on vpower, felt far better. I can only guess it must of been about 160-170BHP before I serviced it giving 219BHP. So it's still down on power but if I changed Coil packs and injectors then it would probably be closer but it's just what I use when the weather is not 911 permitting.

I'm fairly sure there is a reasonable loss if you don't ever change the oil or give it any sort of service.
If you keep it somewhat fresh I can't see why there would be any at all, I would imagine there should be a power gain as components get bedded properly at some point during their lifespan.
