I know I could ring them up and ask them but just curious if anyone has done so recently. Decided against adding 2 year warranty to my car but if Porsche really have reduced their prices for Cayman/987 servicing and I can save circa £100 by sourcing Mobil 1 from Costco, a main dealer service doesn't look unreasonable. Thanks in advance.

Is the saving really £100?

I am sure I have heard on the grapevine that it is somewhere around a £100 saving!

£395 to £309 for my major on a 986 but cost me £50 retail to supply own oil. If you take into account t I will have bought 1.5l too much then you might get back to £100.

Newcastle no longer allow you to supply your own oil but when I suggested i would take my business elsewhere they matched the Costco price.

Can you take your own filters in to? And what about fitting it all yourself?

I don't bring my own oil - I just negotiate on the price.

If you are looking for oil, Euro Car Parts are now doing Mobil 1 at £35 for 5 litres.

that is ok on the proviso that you document lots of unnecessary work that needs doing urgently

I guess you also have to decide on what value is placed on the coffee and biccies, the Porsche logoed sachets of sugar and, most importantly, the brand new Boxter Spider that I was loaned when mine had its last service (boy do those Spiders howl!!) smokin

I wouldn't ask the question if Porsche weren't trying to make over £100 profit purely on the cost of the oil...

I understand they have overheads to cover but if I can buy 10l of oil for £60ish and OPC want to charge me almost £100 more than this for exactly the same oil (and presumably they get it quite a bit cheaper due to buying in bulk), I think its worth asking if I can supply my own oil as I'm not a typical PH powerfully built company director/ CEO with incredibly deep pockets.

Saving is about 90 quid and I had no problem with East London so kick up a fuss if they won't let you or won't price match.

Still cheaper at Costco. It's about £29 for 5 litres there.

Prices for oil at OPCs appears to vary (Leicester = £100, Hatfield = £125), so the saving will not be the same everywhere but it is always a considerable amount.

I always supply my own oil. Cost me £58 to buy 10 litres from Costco last time, and Hatfield OPC would have charged £125 for only the 7-8 litres that they would have used. No point just giving Porsche £67 for nothing, and you'll have some left over for top-ups between services.

You should still be able to negotiate a bit on the rest of the service too, so don't think that by supplying your own oil you are going to have to pay full whack on everything else.

Yes - though you have to pay £25 to join Costco and it would therefore require purchasing 25l before you made a saving on the ECP price (and more importantly for me the nearest Costco to me is Glasgow, which is a 400 mile round trip and a return ferry crossing!)

I posted about ECP as they have not previously stocked Mobil 1.

Fair enough for you, but my post was for the interest of the OP who mentioned Costco in his post, suggesting that either: a) he is already a member, or: b) using a Costco would not be an issue. In this situation, Costco would probably be a cheaper option for him.

For people such as myself who are Costco members anyway for its other numerous benefits (mainly their meat! Nowhere can beat Costco meat, not even the local butchers!) I don't count the membership fee towards the service cost as I pay it anyway regardless of whether I buy oil from there or not.

Yup, they have trade and private member status. No real discernible difference that i can see other than trade members get earlier access in the mornings.

What you need by way of corroborating information on sign-up is on their walls. For private members, usually a utility bill will work IIRC.

These threads crop up fairly often. I do understand where people are coming from, but it's really a bit like going to a restaurant for a meal, then saying the wine is too heavily maked up, I'll bring my own supermarket bought bottle.

They'll accept pretty much anyone. I've never known anyone be refused membership.
