Any ideas on how worn pads (rears, if it makes a difference) have to be for the wear warning to come on?

A quick check looks like there is plenty left on the pads (the outside ones at least - haven't checked insides yet).

The cynic in me says it makes fiscal sense for Porsche to have the warning come on earlier rather than later ...

..Depends on the car type..?, you had better check both sides of the disc, and if it's a GT3 they dont wear parallel either, the sensor might be showing, but you could easily be about to run out of material on the thin end.. !

I was told by a Porsche Service Manager (who I trust) that you have approximately 1000-2000 miles of normal road use, but it could be as little as half a lap on a track! (Obviously both depending on your braking technique) smile
