Tailing from another post, can we include the whole line up for the big party next year, or is the 993 the last of the original breed? Or perhaps to say last of the cars with the original lines? Do not want to anger 996 997 owners but how many people consider the 993 the last of the true line, as the 911 started as an air cooled?

All Porsche cars are air-cooled in some way biggrin

(I know what you are getting at though; best not to poke too much as there are some with strong opinions on both sides of the fence).

Despite the smoother nose, lines are the same, IMHO.
Certainly drives like a 1963 car! quote=mrdemon]

A 993 drives like a 63 car , I doubt early owners would agree.

Porsche seem to feel they are valid up the 991. Why start trying to create an artificial split?

This.

(Either that, or the cut off is when they stopped calling them 911's, so pre-964)

All Porsches count surely?

PS vested interest : 1970 911 but have owned, and love, latest versions.

To the OP so you want your car to be included but the next car and those that follow off the production line to be excluded. evil

The real 911 ended in late 1968 when they welded a couple of inches into the floorpan and spoiled the handling.

It then ended again when MFI was dropped in 76.

Then again when they lengthened the stroke for the 3.2 and stopped the engines revving properly.

Then again when they tilted the headlights back for the 993.

Then again when when they put stability control on an RS for the 997.

I've not really driven a 991 properly, but no doubt it's also not a proper 911.

Thinking about it, the 911 also ended in late 1971 when someone (presumably someone at the firm's wife) thought a sportscar would work with first gear being left and up instead of left and down.

IMO cars have to evolve, i dont care what anyone says the new stuff is as good as if not better than older stuff to drive, i dont think that the 993 was the last of the breed, to be honest i cant see all the fuss made about the 993, its uglier than a 930, 996 and 997 and isn't as nice to drive ( so i have heard )- please dont hurt me people, its just an opinion biggrin

964 has the same basic lines as a 63 car,

993 was a huge departure in styling
