Brake cooling duct spoiler fell off GT3
Discussion
997.1 GT3.
Driving along.
Heard a scraping sound.
Next thing I know, I've run over something.
Look in mirror, see a piece of plastic in road.
Stop. Collect plastic. Has a 997 part number.
Looked like a half destroyed front brake cooling duct, google the number it is.
Now, these aren't wear and tear items, and my car has just come back from Porsche for a few bits and warranty renewal. This should be handled by warranty right? I cant think that anything Porsche would have done would cause this, am I giving them too much credit?

Well thats what I thought, but I live in Dubai.
Phoned OPC, they have stock. Try £90 each!
I would rather spend the £100 on 2 months worth of fuel, or a steak rather than give it to OPC if it's covered! I've already given them £1250 this month.
Think of the bright side £100 would buy you only a couple of weeks worth of petrol in the UK. Phoned OPC, they have stock. Try £90 each!

You live in Dubai and drive a GT3 and you are stressing over £100? Give over
Oi. shut it.you can take the boy out of a small village in Kent, but.................
I paid my £90. And have a new spoiler. Good value for a piece of molded plastic you can buy for 10% of the price in the states. it's the principal! They fkin bend us over sometimes here!
Yeah, £25 a tank for me actually - I have the 90 litre extended range tank and only use super. Hence 2 months, 4 tank fulls. Little bit of sarcasm there when I posted it, no?

Where abouts are you in Dxb? I grew up in Saudi and do quite a lot of work there, had 6 weeks in Port Rashid last year!
Live downtown, work DIFC. were you in Riyadh/Jeddah/Khobar? I've done Riyadh twice, Jeddah once so far. Not as bad as everyone makes out and still changing (for the better).I picked up my wallet from port rashid police station a few months back. I lost it at the beach (in the car park I believe), and lucky for me a copper picked it up. I did get told off/a lecture about taking my wallet to the beach when I collected it though, but fair point you don't need a heap of cash and plastic when buying hot dogs and water.

What would the postage have been if you bought it in the uk?
Considerably less...The addendum to this is that the 997 ducts are priced as a consumable, but the 996 equivalents ... many times as much. But for anyone that needs them, the 997 part works perfectly well on a 996

Colin is right, I could have shipped it for 6 quid from USA or uk. But I'm going on a drive with some friends on sat, so wanted the car to be A1 before that, so couldn't wait. I may get some for spares for next time from the USA.
I don't think they make much difference driving on the road, but if you are pressing on or on track then having brakes on the same axel at potentially different temperatures doesn't sound like a great idea to me!

If you are just doing road driving and aren't hugely pressing on then you ought to be okay without them, though I would take the other one off to match them up personally. I wouldn't dream of running without them on track of course. The thermal load on the brakes is on a completely different level.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

14 quid a friggin tank too.
