LHD German car import.

I imported my 911 from near Munich 15 years ago. No duties or taxes were due as it was imported from an EU country, and was also a few years old
The re-registration paperwork in the UK was straightforward and cheap. Headlamp lenses were changed from LHD to RHD when I got to the UK, but I read somewhere that modern Porsches may have switchable lamps (?)
Not sure if speedos need conversion. Mine is still on Km's and has never been queried on MOT's
My private seller kindly let me drive back on his plates on the basis that I posted them back immediately - the tax disc was, and maybe still is, located on the number plate. I had a mate in Munich and stayed a couple of days for the funds to transfer before I could collect it. It must be quicker these days to transfer money UK-Germany
At the time people I spoke with said the German equivalent of our MOT (the TUV) was more rigorous and cars were generally in better condition (that may or may not be true). I had the Munich Porsche centre do an inspection, much to the amusement of the owner and garage who thought it was unnecessary
I've never sat in a RHD 3.2 Carrera but I read that the LHD 3.2's had a bulkhead in the footwell on the passenger side that remained in place on RHD cars, making the footwell a little compromised - anyone know this to be true? I don't know if there are these sorts of anomalies between LHD and RHD cars these days

Given you ask...have a look at my LHD GT3 RS for sale in the classified, ready to go with documents wating to be posted to DVLA in order to get UK Plates.
It's a very very easy process, especially because the only thing you need to change on the car is the rear foglight, the front xenon lights got a small lever to convert the beam to flat while the electronic speed in miles will be accepted and you don't have to change the whole thing.
Overall it won't take you more then 2-3 weeks to do everything.

This wouldn't be unreasonable - for most of the last few years (for pretty much the first time ever) prices were actually lower here than on the continent as I recall. I believe that currency hedging by Porsche was what enabled it...?Maxige said:

Hi Can you advise why you need to change the rear foglight? I have a 2009 Carrera C4 coming from Germany, and thought the car already comes equipped with fog lights? Just went through this process last year when I bought my 997.2 GTS from Germany. As said above, just get the right hand side rear light cluster (which includes the fog light), get the front lights adjusted and the speedometer you can easily change via the settings. An OPC should easily be able to help you and provide you with the paperwork for VCA/Mutual Recognition. The whole process takes a few weeks, not complicated at all.

You shouldn't need to replace anything. Just splice in a run of cable from the rear LH fog about 1m in length to the RH cluster. My 996 (RHD imported to DE) already had the lamp holder in situ so it is just a case of swapping the bulb over. You can also have both fog lights on if you wish (I.e RH or both but not LH only). I will dig out some pictures to show you how to do this if you need them
