I've read a few topics on here and planet 9 about PCCB.
Apart from the few horror stories it seems like if you treat them right (allow adequate cooling etc and early pad change) they can last you a long time and prevent an expensive replacement.

It looks like my pads are nearing 50% so I'm going to replace them.
But where can you get pads for PCCB and is the Cayman PCCB different from the other models?

I've had a look at 911uk and porscheshop and although they have brake parts I couldn't see replacement pads for cayman PCCB.

Also if I did have to replace the discs where would you get them from? Is it OPC only?

I saw some replacement discs for PCCB on porscheshop:
http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/acatalog/performance_...

they are 3k! but they replace the set of 4 discs and I think they use the same calipers. So would be better than replacing a set of PCCB discs or could be used on trackdays. But it looks like they are for GT3 and I think the PCCB discs on GT3 are bigger?

Plus does anybody know if this set is also ceramic disc, it does not say?

I believe they are the same as PCCB on the normal 997s. The GT3 and later Turbo have 380mm front discs which are larger.

There are some US sites that list the pads and discs ( suncoastparts.com ) but I haven't seen them on UK sites.

I would be interested to know how much an OPC would charge to replace the pads. Somebody with a GT3 recently mentioned £700 for each end which seems ludicrous.

thanks for the reply.
So maybe it seems like the cayman PCCB has 350 or 360mm front discs, with the rears being the same on 997, GT3 etc.
If its 997 that indicates GenII PCCB I believe.

Thanks for the suncoast link they have the parts listed. The brake discs are $9k and $8k F and R but at least the pads are only $300 ish (!).

http://www.suncoastparts.com/category/caymanSbrake...

Good thing is they have OEM part numbers, listed here for reference:
(all under Cayman S PCCB)

Front rotor set (left and right rotors) - 99735103200AND99735103100
($9000 approx £6000)
Rear rotor set (left and right rotors) - 98735203102AND98735203202
($8000 approx £5000)
Front brake pad set (complete set assume 4 pads) - 99735194801x
($327 approx £218)
Rear brake pad set (complete set assume 4 pads) - 99735294800
($357 approx £238)

Interesting to see that the rear discs are specifically for Cayman/Boxster and the fronts are listed for Carerra (note cayman/boxster not listed)

Just came off the phone with Porsche shop the performance friction PCCB replacement discs are for GT3 only as they are 380mm.
So the Cayman S and Carrera have to replace with S brakes (ie replacing discs and calipers).

Unless the other alternative Alcon is feasible.

There are some Brembo replacement steel discs available for the 350mm Cayman PCCB.

http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/brembo-2pc-350m...

Again a US site but I guess it would be possible to get them in the UK or ship them from the US.

As you say the Cayman has Gen II PCCB, 350mm front and rear with the rears being thinner.

Looking at the prices I'm hoping I never have to replace my discs!

The cheapest place on the net for genuine parts I have found is www.porscheoemparts.com who are Sonnen in the US. The website is fully catalogued and priced. They ship via fedex and are reasonable to deal with.

Not trying to derail the pricing thread but I have question regrading performance of Alcon or other alternatives, compared to Porsche PCCB originals (or Porsche consumable parts). Are there noticeable differences of the Alcon (or others) discs/pads for track use, braking performance, fade, heat?

Anyone who has experience with non-OEM ceramic rotors?

Is that not 2 x discs for £1600?
If so the best option still looks like swapping over to red calipers if the PCCB needs replacing.

Oh and with all this brake talk I saw this on one of the rotors. Anything to worry about?

There is a visible line around the disc but it is not like scoring.
To be honest I think it might always have been there and could just be the way the disc was made.
COuld just be paranoia but it might be worth checking.

I've got the Alcons, any they're very good. Got warm going round the Alp's, but no real fade. 6 pot calipers, but the pads are Pagid and only from Porsche. They seam to wearing well. The truth is, it's £900 for a set of replacement rotors, so no real saving.

What size calipers do you have Graham? Phone me if you want to pull out my receipts and see ho much it was? smile

Graham, do whatever you can to keep the car on PCCB its what marks your ghayman out from the rest.
The only thing I would change about my car after countless hoons, the eurotrip and track work would be PCCB.
