For those who are interested I took the 996 turbo across the Alps last week. Read about it @

Cyrus,

Great write up, sounds like a fantastic trip !!!

I will be doing something very similar next week in my new Turbo Cab.

Driving down from my appartment in the three valleys to Monaco. This involves going over the highest mountain pass in Europe called the col de la Bonnette, simply breathtaking !!

Nothing better than having some fun in Stuttgarts finest, in the best driving roads with the best scenery in Europe !!

Great report.

I'm looking forward to some swiss mountain pass hoonage on the upcoming Eurohoon trip. Interesting to read of your speeds through France though, the last I heard was the gendarmes were confiscating licences of drivers doing 40kmh+ over the limit. The last few trips over have indicated to me that most people have had to slow down a fair bit, myself included.

Absolutely, and a 750 Euro fine is quite easy to achieve... I've seen "les flics" with their radars/lasers just about everywhere (i.e from the autoroutes to alpine roads near Megeve).

I'll have to keep an eye on this one. Planning a long trip in September.

Not a single copper on all of the French and Swiss motorways hence keeping the pace up. I saw a speed trap in a town but oncoming cars flashed lights to warn so I was not cought.

I know going fast is a risk but I do it considerately - if such a thing is possible in the black and white world of todays policing. I won't tell you the max I hit on a straight deserted stretch of dual carriage way :-)

CYRUS

My comments on speeds achieved were made on the basis of letting you know that the gendarmes have recently started clamping down on this very seriously now. I would never tell someone not to drive quickly when they can do so safely.

Silver993tt - I might be starting a new contract in Dusseldorf so will get in touch if I do.

D, no worries - I figure with a 996TT yourself you won't be driving Miss Daisey :-)

Fantastic article. Nice one mate.

Were the roads as good as the German ones this weekend?

Good pics as well. Slightly tarnished by having a Burberry Beetle in the foreground

I'm moving into an office on top of the Porsche OPC over here. I'll have to walk through the courtyard that's in the middle of the showrooms to get there every day

Horse_Apple - roads about the same as the stuff we did this weekend. What time did the mobile sauna you call the Griff mak it back incidentally. I was just in time for Top Gear.

Bear in mind that you do live so much closer to Peckham than I do.

However, even with that in mind and the fact that I dropped the car off in Watford, had a drink and chat, drove back into town in the BM, dropped off the passenger in SJW, I still made it back just before 9. Plus, I didn't break the speed limit.

I think it is a lot quicker to loop round the M25 and drop in Town on the M1 than fight your way through Poohvil and cross the river and run up through the City.

An added bonus was the fact that the flat was hotter than the Griff when I got home!!!!!
