Boxster PCM Fault

Sorry if this topic has come up several times but could not find a related topic in "search"
I have a 2nd owner 2005 Boxster S with sat nav. It is only normally used at weekends and so not a lot of use in the recent "monsoon" type UK weather.
Finally got it out of the garage and after about 5 minutes the sat nav screen came up with a message sometning like PCM overheating problem safety shutdown.
I know this is related to the PCM system, but does anyone have any idea what the problem is and is it an easy (or expensive) fix. It can't actually be an "overheating" problem as it now come on seconds after the ignition is turned on from cold.

Porsche released a TSB for this very fault a while back and all cars should have had the update repair carried out under the factory warranty. This raises a few questions so you may want to ask what else hadn't been carried out.
Iirc and if it's any reassurance, it's not the pcm at fault but the dvd drive in the front boot. The fix is a firmware update to the system.

The Sat Nav disk is the original that came with the car and I have not tried to change it. In fact I had not touched it at all until this happened. I did eject the disk and loaded it again, but that alone has not solved the problem - The disk has a 2005 date on it if that is relevant, which is an appropriate date for the car.
I am keen to try and sort it out and would try what has been suggested, but don't understand the electrics and the "computer" controls in the car. If I do what has been suggested can I be sure that it won't affect anything else and would it wipe any "memory" items in the car?

Did you still get the message with the map disk ejected? That would be an indication as to whether it is a navigation drive software/firmware issue. If the map disk is 04.2005 or later, try pulling the fuse as described above. (Edit: Fuse D9)

Try it without the disk, which should tell you if it is a software/incompatibility issue. If you don't get the overtemperature message, then try the procedure removing the fuse. If that doesn't work, I think you need to get a diagnostic check done, and possibly update the software. (PM me iif you get to that stage - I'm in Berks, and can do both for you).

Ok, tried it with the disk out and still got the warning. Tried the 1 4 8 reset a few times and no joy and so I also tried removing fuse 9 left it fir a couple of minutes and this did not work either.
By the way I assume that fuse 9 that I was to remove was the ninth from the left on row D which appeared to be the one that controlled the PCM.
Does this now mean it is a hardware problem which sounds expensive?

This problem only got sorted after a trip to Cartronics in Weybridge and quite a lot of money.
Unfortunately as the Boxster has been in the garage for a few months now due to the bad weather I seems to have another problem with the sat nav but not the same symptoms as before.
As before the PCM works fine but this time I get 4 white bars come up on the screen when I try to use the sat nav. it says that the system is loading and as the first bar is blue I presume they should all eventually turn blue as it loads but it never gets further than this.
Don't know if this is relevant or not but when I first got into the car the audio cd had ejected itself. I did not think anything about this and so just pushed it back in and now this won't play or eject either.
Anyone any ideas please
