I've been searching for almost six months now, and I didn't think I was asking too much (manual, coupe, less than 40k miles, sports chrono, warranty or at least FPSH). Every car I've seen (physically or virtually) appears to have some quirk i.e. crazy price, a new owner every six months, crash damage etc.

I'm starting to get despondent and looking at Bentleys (need four seats). Surely the right car is out there.

Where do you guys source your cars? Currently only trying PH and dealer network.

Not much good stock available at mo. Many have been for sale for months and prices have not changed. The one's i've seen early £40k were poor condition and OPC have less examples than before and cheapest one is £53k(i'm looking only at tip's) where as last christmas they had a tip at £45k.

You're running into the limited number of these cars available.

Production numbers per year are in the very low 4 digits for the entire world. Cars produced for the UK market are probably in the low 3 digits.

Also, as a population of cars, 997 Turbos in this case, ages, things happen.

The cars are mod'd, involved in minor or serious accidents, and as they change hands filter down to owners who are not able or willing to pay to properly keep these cars up and the cars suffer and end up in a less than desirable condition.

These cars are not cheap to own or run. First they are expensive cars: In USA dollars anyhow they cost upwards of $120K and more. Heck, my 03 Turbo cost its original owner $120K in '03.

And they are not cheap cars to properly maintain or repair. I just replaced two rear tires on my Turbo and paid nearly $500 for one tire. The other one was replaced at no cost to me from a road hazard warranty.

A good car is where you find it so you have to look far and wide and you'll find a car.

Sincerely,

Rockster.

If your serious I know of a black on black manual 2006 24k miles chrono all the toys seriously cherished.
Religiously polished and clayed. Rather depends on your budget but if you like the sound of it I can ask.

So, they've all got something wrong with them, or they're crazily priced.

Think about that for a few minutes.

If price is a problem for you, forget about a turbocharged Porsche.

Saying they're over-priced isn't necessarily an indication of how much I have to spend. A 45k miles 2006 for £52k is over-priced in my mind (against against other examples). I hope I don't need to change my choice of car because some owners are dreamers.

Market dictates. Very few traders are 'dreamers'.

Hence why some have not sold for 6m

They'll be confident about values going into the Autumn when certain buyers think FWD is going to keep them on the road whatever their inputs are. Remember at least 50% of the market is SOR, dealers won't care about capital costs on these.

Sounds like a classic case of "champagne taste, beer money"?

its not unusual for expensive performance cars to change hands often, as long as its not daft like 6 owners in a year, then i wouldn't let that put you off if everything else checks out

That may be the case, but if you can't find one for the price that is in your mind then that tells you that you are in fact the dreamer. You clearly have an expectation on both price and condition that you can't actually meet!

Sounds sweet to me, why has the OP not picked up on this?

It's funny, I was about to start a thread asking if the prices of these cars was going up. It seems to be and I think it's down to supply and demand (as ever!) but they are starting to look like seriously good value at sub £50k and are getting snapped up and held on to. The OPC ones do seem to shift but even the rotating stock seems to be priced at what they were over 6 months ago. I guess they are giving discounts?

Just asking, but if I knew of a lovely Meteor Grey 2007 turbo, manual with sport chrono, 25k miles, nice spec, perfect tyres and an OPC warranty to May 2014, what kind of money would you like to pay for that? Just as a guide.

I would want to pay around £52-54k. Am I close?

Not sure if I'm reading too much into such comments. Again, regardless of how much money I want to spend, surely there's a market value for most cars. Nobody wants to "over-pay" versus market, or perhaps their desires.

I guess the comments are linked to looking for a car for 6 months and not finding one, however there are plenty of good cars our there - they are just 'expensive'.

If you see half a dozen 06 manual turbos for sale at £45-47K it is easy to start thinking that is what they are worth. However, if said 6 cars are all a bit rough or accident damaged, then the nice ones priced at £55K might seem expensive, but in reality are continuing to command that price due to condition. It is very easy to spend £7-8K getting one of these cars right, then if from an OPC £2.5K on a 2 year warranty, it is very easy to see how you can have a spread of over £10K across the same age car.
