I think this has been done before.
Ive bought a lowered 944 and my old trolly jack wont go under so need a new one.
Handy if its light enough to travel for track days, so any recommendations ?

Thanks

Arcan

would personally avoid the ali ones. I have one but it blows seals and falls apart. I use 2 arcans now and they are industrial strength and ont around £100 from ebay.

The simple solution is to make some wooden ramps which allow you the drive the car on. I have two ramps both about 2 inches high, and have no problems jacking my GT3

Agree it looks strong but doesn't look light though. If it's just for swapping wheels at trackdays then the Ali one would be ok IMO.

COSTCO - Bargain and I have had no probs lifting the rear of my 993 with them, nor the 968CS I had before. They go down low. Not used alot, but after a year are still just as good as new. Think about £80 each.

The machine Mart ones are much smaller than others and not very strong - they're fine if used with care (and you regularly check all the bolts are tight!) but the load needs to be directly vertical onto the jack pad - if not the jack will bend.

Costco used to do a brilliant Arcan aluminium one for £80+VAT but seem to have discontinued it in favour of the steel one (as shown further up this thread) for about the same price.

A good aluminium one is available from Sealey for under £150 - the RJAS2500 (2.5 tonne) not to be confused with the smaller 1.25kgs one (which looks similar but the difference is it has only 1 spring) which is equivalent to the Machine Mart one.

My Alloy Arcan has been going strong for 3 years now, used nearly every day too. Excellent bit of kit, not the lightest but possibly the best design from a reach/lowness point of view.

Also take the caster wheels off the trolley-jack, if you haven't already done so, lowered mine just enough that way.
You need to be very careful if you do that - the castors are there so the jack can move under the car as it raises, if they're not there and it can't move then you're running the risk of the car coming off the jack pad instead.

+1 The jack is supposed to run under the car as the swing arm lifts!

I had the same problem with my 944 track toy...

I just used the original Porsche scissor jack for the first couple of inches lift, then slot the normal trolley jack under and lift away.

Same in reverse on the way down so it doesnt catch. thumbup
