I have noticed two occasions recently during the drive to work where my engine temperature gauge seems to stall at about 40 deg C. Normally it gets up to just over 80 deg C within a few miles of leaving. The journey is 20 miles with the first 15 miles being fast A roads then 5 miles of town driving so I would have thought that there would be no problem getting up to temperature.

The car doesn't get used all that much, perhaps that is part of the problem. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

Tiptronic: I've just put it into the local indie for a check.
