Hi all,

I've just had my renewal letter through.

I'm considering the two year warranty, so that when I sell the car next year, the next owner can have a year's peace of mind.

Is there "wiggle room" for negotiation re. price? I've been offered the 111 point free of charge, but that's about it.

Is renewing the warranty the right move?

I intend to renew mine on my 997 gen 1 gt3. It's the kind of car that I think it makes sense for the cash. I just had a suspension bush replaced under warranty that otherwise wud be £473.
No brainer for me and no I don't think there is any wiggle room

Certainly will give you peace of mind and without doubt assist with a sale. I think the only room you may have for negotiation is if they find anything requiring attention on the 111 point check.

It's nice to see that Porsche don't charge more for warranty on the GT3 over the std. 911's although I'm sure std. 911 owners would argue why they should pay the same as a more specialist (more expensive) car and not the same as Boxter/Cayman considering service costs are the same....

I would renew. You will get some of it back in the value of the car when you sell too.

Is it cheaper without Porsche Assist? Thanks to my bank account I get full AA or RAC or something anyway so little point paying for it again.

I get similar but it doesn't include home start. You may want to check

Just checked - Home Start is included. I have a Lloyds Premier account - is included on that and their Platinum accounts apparently. Also includes a courtesy car for 72 hours apparently.

I'm being bent over by Lloyds basically. Worth bearing in mind though because at £25 a month also includes travel insurance and mobile insurance. And a black debit card to show off with in Tesco.

Very similar to the Nat West one. I'm sure we'll never use any of it either!!!

A gentle reminder that this thread is not really about Llyods, Natwest, etc. Thank you all for your contributions.

I keep the warranty on mine, like the piece of mind.

First year not much went wrongm, maybe a few things here and there, not much. Second year, did an RMS and FMS one after the other. Got the clutch changed parts only due to the RMS (not that it needed it but hey ho). Also had a few other things sorted, new seatbelt, front bonnet latch fixed, etc...

To now, it would have cost me more not to have it. When I bought the car it had a full years warranty, so extended it twice now, into third year of ownership. For me it gives the car more value when you sell, I will only replace mine with a GT3/GT2 with warranty.

Apologies - back on topic...

I've paid attention on here and I don't think anybody has ever got a discount on the warranty, but have always managed to squeeze the OPC re: 111 pt check prices, particularly if this is all done at the same time as a service.

Speaking for myself I'll always try and keep my Cayman in warranty and I'd be much much keener on buying a car that had warranty - peace of mind for the future and also peace of mind that the vendor had looked after the car properly - win/win for you I reckon.

Personally, I always found that it paid to have the warranty, the cost of any repairs usually exceeded the cost of the warranty.

You won't have any wriggle room with the warranty cost, all you can do is remove the Porsche assistance.

No matter how you sell it - it's got to be the right move for any potential purchaser. As they get older, the likelyhood is that things will go wrong and I for one was happy to pay a bit extra for the Porsche warranty! smile

My understanding was that the 111 point check is waved if you renew the warranty b4 it expires

Not directly relevant to the OP's question/dilema but the pricing is curious... Why is the 1yr renewal on a Panamera less than a 911/Cayenne (£1,109 vs £1,189) but the 2yr renewal on the Panamera is more than a 911/Cayenne (£2,395 vs £2,315). The two year renwal on the Panamera is the only one that is more than double the price of the one year renewal... A simple flat rate based on the MSRP of the price at delivery would make more sense to me such as 2.0% per annum for example.

Booked her in for two years and a complimentary 111 point check. Thanks very much chaps, especially for the Porsche Assistance tip. I've got my own cover so that has saved me £300.
