Anyone ordering a Macan?
Discussion
I'd be surprised if Phooey doesn't order one. It's been a few months since he changed a car
I'll certainly be looking at them in 12 months time if they're out by then, as a replacement for the wife's Alpina.
Production sometime in 2013, according to this -

Wouldn't the Q5 be a better bet given Audi's arguably superior reputation for quality and service?
Who knows? The Macan isn't here yet, and I've never had a problem with Porsche quality and service so far.
But, there's just something about Audi that I don't like.

No it's not.
The Cayenne is, the Macan will be Q3 size.
And a car with an Audi badge on the front is the last car my wife would have or want.
Oh really? You sure? The Cayenne is, the Macan will be Q3 size.
And a car with an Audi badge on the front is the last car my wife would have or want.

I understood the Macan was based on Q5 and the Cayenne is surely based on the Tuareg isn't it?
Anyway, doesn't matter, you and your wife clearly buy badges, not cars.

Anyone know when the order book opens? Wanted to get one or my wife.Given a decent spec Cayenne is about £60k, I presume a similar spec Macan would be circa £52k ish.
Any info greatly appreciated.
My dealer said sometime this year. I was waiting for one for my wife as well and ended up buying a high spec VW Tiguan instead which I have been very pleased with. Had a cursory glance at the Q5 but didn't like the styling or the whole Audi image. If you can't wait, I'd recommend it as an alternative.Any info greatly appreciated.

She has a Tiguan currently-loves it. The issue with Mrs B is she won't even consider anything 'big'. The Tiguan is a very good car but it is very short on power and where we live, rural B roads, you do need plenty of power to go for that overtake. I thought of a 3.0 Q5 but as the Macan is coming out, at which point the current car will be almost 3 years old I figured it would be perfect. What is the 'Audi image' these days? Has it taken over from BMW as being driven by people that try rubbing the paint off your back bumper with their front number plate on the motorway? I remember the typical BMW driver having their obligatory fog lamps on 24/7, albeit this has now been replaced by Audi drivers and their LED daytime running lights on causing retinal burning in one's rear view mirror.....

Anyway, back to topic. The spy pics of the new Macan look pretty tempting as a sensibly sized, fun to drive, family wagon. Just don't want to end up like all the footballer's wives around here driving Evoques
For me, I don't care if 'everyone' has one. I hear the Evoque is a very good car but it doesn't suit my requirements. It's a coupe masquerading as a mid size SUV and doesn't have any performance in Diesel format.

This is not just 'badge engineering'.
Porsche may share the Audi/VW platforms, but they are substantially re-developed at Weissach, specifically to optimise the chassis dynamics, and give the product a Porsche identity.
I wold question your use of the word 'optimise' but agree the different brands will be different. Porsche may share the Audi/VW platforms, but they are substantially re-developed at Weissach, specifically to optimise the chassis dynamics, and give the product a Porsche identity.
How much that matters in this class is also debatable, IMO, but then I'm one who thinks Porsche should stick to building sports cars not everyday hacks.
What can be deemed a sports car? if it's fun to drive, has dynamic handling that outshines the competition, enough performance to put a smile on your face and looks good then does it need to be packaged in a two-door body? The boundaries are being blurred. If a Panamera Turbo can post the same Nurgurgring lap time as a Ferarri 360 Challenge-Stradale (7.56), what makes a sports car? Ultimately, we al know that a Panamera is a heavy car but FML is it fun to drive
