911 SC - Tyre recommendations
Discussion
I'm in the process of getting an '82 911sc back in the road. It's been stored in a garage for the past 13 or so years and one of the last things I need to do to get it driveable is get tyres for it.
My local tyre place has said that they'll only fit N rated tyres to it which seems a bit stupid as I didn't think the N ratings were around at that point.
The car has 16" fuchs which i think are 6 and 7" wide.
Any suggestions on what works well would be appreciated

I've had this at a number of local independant tyre sellers. It's got to the point now that when asked I refuse to tell them the make of the car. They hear the word "Porsche" and the £ signs roll in front of their eyes whilst they spout b
ks about they must have N rating by law, blah, blah.
Buy your tyres from Camskill then take them to be fitted at a garage that does it for a fee per tyre. The one I uses charges £12 a tyre, although last time as I took the wheels in loose it was £40 all in for the four. Buy the ones you like as rubber is a subjective and emotive debate. Personally I use FK452s, but I'm thinking of changing next time.

I wouldn't mind but the N ratings weren't even around when the SC was made.

Apparently it will void my warranty if I don't have them which is why I'm now going elsewhere no matter what, I didn't realise Porsche offered a 30 year warranty on their cars!
I've never been a fan of the contis, especially their wet weather performance but I'm not sure if that was the car I had them on which is why I'm a bit worried about fitting them.
Thinking about the Kumho Ecsta KU31s they seem to be well reviewed
Pretty sure there wasn't the N system back then. However Porsche do recommend certain tyres for the older cars:

I can actually get the N spec contis fitted cheaper than camskill sell them for and also cheaper than the Kumhos so I think I'll go for them this time round. I'm dying to get the car on the road, it's there mechanically, the little bits of bodywork will be done over time.
Where from and what price? I'd be interested to know for future reference. If they are really cheap, make sure they are not old stock that have been sitting around for several years. Check the manufacturing date.mollytherocker said:

Nothing fancy to show yet, just it's poor abandoned state. Here it is after cracking the door open into the garage

Apologies for the poor quality, low light and being worried the car port roof was about to collapse and bury me with the car rushed things along! Fortunately it stayed up for the two hours it took to free the poor thing from the cave.
Here it is with 13 years of dust, seeing sunlight for the first time. (it even had a tape player!)

Hmmm, public dropbox image linking doesn't seem to work here for some reason - moved somewhere else

Tough one to answer, heard so many different accounts that I don't know what to believe!MTR
Owner has passed on, he was a mechanical numpty and a wiring nightmare.
Masking tape is not a good insulator for twisted wires behind a dashboard.....
Pirelli do make the original P7 again

That is a Porsche homologated tyre with the N
