Ex Press Demo Cayman R
Discussion
Just appeared in the classifieds on the official Porsche site is an ex press demo car. Spec sounds hardcore with no aircon, no radio, colour to sample green (no pictures yet - I would guess at Viper), manual with short shift, sports exhaust, lightweight battery, ceramic brakes, leaather dash and nothing else.
Probably the purest Cayman R spec I have seen; I just couldn't live with it myself. No doubt there will be a massochist along in a minute to say different....

Hi Mike,Mike
Not as bad as I was led to believe. It was a whole day last Friday, plenty of red flags due to breakdowns or spins but driving standards were generally fine. The Melbourne loop ruins the flow of the circuit imho as it's just point and squirt.
Some interesting cars including a 458 Corsa running 4k rpm max due to noise and not needing to brake on some of the tighter corners - the old hairpin amongst others.
Some of the Caterfield Sevens were quick as were the Cossies in a straight line. One did a barrel roll which certainly ruined their day.
How was Monday evening?

Wasn't that lightweight battery a £1k+ option? Do those things even work in cold weather?
I've driven that car, whilst on a photo shoot with GT Purely Porsche. At the time she had around 2k miles and had a very annoying squeak/rattle from the back of the car, she did seem to.be leading a rather tough life at the hands of journos.
I was very impressed with the ability of the R but came to the conclusion that maybe it was a little too good, ie possibly a little boring. I was not that impressed with the short shift box, brakes were absolutely fantastic and the PSE sounded fab though.

Well within warranty, very light weight, it is quite the bargain at under £40k. They are fetching much more than this at the moment.
Might work as a track car for someone, but not as an all rounder. £2-4k more buys one that has better spec for everyday use and is not an ex-press car.Peridot is also an opinion divider.

The white one at Tonbridge has all the weight put back in with navigation, Bose, telephone, air conditioning and SPORTS EXHAUST. It's a manual
and all that additional weight can saved by the driver going to the gym
The others also have sports exhaust. However, the additional weight can usually be countered by the driver having some tuition rather than going to the gym - unless they are a driving God. Perhaps weightwatcher would be more applicable

you tried losing 10kg+? Have you seen the average UK male/female? Just turn up on a track day how many drivers look as fit as Button/Webber/Hamilton? lots of people I know would pay quite a pretty penny to lose 10kg and look fit.

Found a list of weight savings for the Cayman R - so I guess you can work out what you need to do at the gym to make up the weight loss
Aluminum Doors and Light Weight Door Panels - 15kgs
Composite Sport Bucket Seats - 12kgs
Air Conditioning - 12kgs
Other - 7kgs
Light Weight Drop Forged Wheels - 5kgs (unsprung)
Radio and Speakers - 3kgs (not sure about PCM or better sound systems)
Removal of Storage Compartments - 1kgs
Lightweight Battery - 10kgs
PCCB - 5kgs (unsprung) but have read that no weight saving as Cayman R brakes are light anyhow and that figure was based on heavier 911 brakes?
