Morning everyone,

I was just looking at joining a Porsche enthusiast club but don't know much about them. Is there a particular club people recommend over any other?

It seems to be between Tipec and Porsche club GB? Are there others?

I found those via Google but wanted members opinions on whether they were worthwhile joining? I'd just like to be able to attend the occasional meet with my family more than anything and also add to the resources of here and Rennlist when I get the occasional technical question.

Both Clubs have a lot to offer. I'd visit your local meets (they will be on the respective websites or forums) and see which you prefer. Or you might like both!

Hi,

I am a member of Porsche Club GB originally due to an insurance policy that gave me a discount above the cost of becoming a member, so no brainer! I am not a beardy man, but actually think it's worth the cash. The forum has been invaluable - esp. when buying cars. I have found the members on there to be a friendly and helpful bunch. The monthly magazine is OK and I haven't attended a regional night yet due to diary commitments, but they seem to get some interesting speakers now and again (R21).

Why don't you attend the national event this Sunday and see what you think? I believe it's £15 on the door. Can't comment on TIPEC as have no experience of them.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

SL

Was a member of PCGB for nearly 15 years. Not anymore.

Four consecutive annual events were poorly organised, over priced and members interests not looked after. Had to threaten to take Club to Trading Standards over last years event to get my money back.

Club did nothing for members when Boxster engines started blowing up - far too tied in with Porsche UK, a financially based relationship that takes primacy over representing members interests.

Monthly mag was little more than an advert for Porsche cars GB - take a subscription to Porsche 911 World instead - its also a shadow of its former self and also little more than an advertising rag but at least it covers more than one company!

At local level it was fine but nationally PCGB an utter disaster, polluted with petty politics, riven by personal prejudices and incompetence by people serving their own interests not others.

I have now joined TIPEC and its a breath of fresh air. Same discounts at Porsche centres and indies, same benefits for insurance and at local level almost identical people. But, nationally its friendly, not arrogant, runs annual shows that are free to go to (why wouldn't they be? Oh, unless its to make money as a business) and costs £50 for 2 years membership not £70+ for a year. Has a reputation for its members having beards and open toed sandal / white socks; I have neither and don't see it myself. Instead, friendly genuine people.

Just my view of course!

Just thought worth saying that whatever your views are on the events/costs etc the majority of members that are equally vocal on here are very helpful and enthusiastic individuals.

If you're interested in the 'social' side of a Porsche club I think you'll need to get along to the local meets of both clubs and see what you find. Our North West region of TIPEC is busy, well attended and, I think, welcoming and friendly. Your local group could be the complete opposite - though I hope it's not!
