Evening all, I have an 11 plate Boxster S with just over 9000 miles on the clock and the OH has been to work in it today upon return she informed me that it needs servicing in 18 days according to the dashboard?

I was under the impression my car had a 2 year/20,000 mile service interval or is it based on type of usage etc?

That'll teach you to let your OH drive your Porsche!

Service intervals are as you describe.

The car will probably have been built 2 years ago hence why the computer thinks it's service time. OPC will re- programme it for you if you are happy driving round with 2 year old oil for the next 6 months. I suppose that depends on how cautious you are and how long you want to keep the car for!

i was told all cars are pdi'd on arrival in to the country at reading.hence if your car was built like mine june 2011 then arrived early july 2011 but not registered until december 2011 then the first service would show as july 2013.

Not sure who's meant to do it but my Spyder * might * have flashed up on the computer a bit sooner than 2 years after it was first registered and it * might * have been convenient for me to hang on a couple of months and renew the warranty at the same time. So shoot me...

My OPC recommended that I have an inspection after 12 months. I didn't have to but I had it anyway as I thought it was a good idea as 2 years is too long in my eyes. I think my mileage was quite low as well.

Usage plays a role.

Protect your investment. Get the thing serviced. Change that oil/filter and drive the car more.

BTW, in the USA it is becoming common for a dealer to *charge* to clear the service light to have it on record the car was not properly serviced when it was time to be serviced.

Even if the owner elects to have just an oil/filter service done this is not considered a proper service and will either not clear the light or charge for it.

Also, I have been told that it costs the dealer humdreds of dollars per month to keep its Porsche specific diagnostics computers 'alive' and more and more dealers are charging for any thing that requires a hook up of this to the car.

BTW, it is not a simple connect and clear operation. The diagnostics computer runs through an extensive check out of the car's DME and other controllers/systems.

Sincerely,

Rockster.
