My S2 could do with some new shocks,my local independant quoted about £1000 inc geomerty set up for standard replacments.
This seems flaming excessive to me,does anyone know where else i can go and maybe advise on different shocks without changing other stuff as i quite like the GT ride.
By the way i live in the South east.

Call Bert Gear at www.berlyn-services.co.uk

He sells genuine S2 shocks for £150 each. They are not difficult to fit and any reputable garage can do it in a couple of hours. You will need a proper alignment afterwards as camber, caster and toe angle will be out. Rear shocks are only around £80 each so you can have a complete new suspension for under £500 and the car feels wonderful afterwards

There is a guide to DIY at www.clarks-garage.com in the Garage shop manual titled 'Strut replacement'

I guess you're refering to the Sachs units ? Is it true they're good when new ?
I know those are awful when they wear out and have often read they were awful when new too ...

Well they made a heck of a lot of difference when replacing my 150,000 mile originals and to be honest I thought the originals were okay. It was only that one of the fronts failed an MOT that I changed them.

They are nowhere near as firm as my Turbo M030 ones but then you would expect that, and I only use the S2 on road and it does the job perfectly.

I've used a little place called PJM Motorsport for work on my S2 very good value and Pete knows his stuff and is very approachable - near Milton Keynes if that's any good to you, preps rally cars and a certain Le Mans classic Tiga, he also did my cambelt and all the other plus tensioner wheels for 350 plus vat - if it hadn't needed the new wheels it would have come in at 220 plus!

If you want phone numbers I can divulge...

No, most tyre places can only measure the toe in angle. You need a place that can do a full 4 wheel geometry setup. Ask your local tyre place if they know one nearby or check in your local yellow pages.

An independant garage will charge around the £100 if the adjusters are not seized up. A Porsche specialist will probably be near double

If you are near Northampton, I use New Duston Garage who know 944's and charged me £150 even though it took them many hours to release a few of my seized adjusters

For a specialist in the South East who has a proper alignment machine, you could try Tognola Engineering in Datchet, Berks (01753 545053).

How much it costs depends entirely on whether adjusters etc are seized. Cost me £250 (5 hours labour) due to everything being seized, one of the eccentric bolts broken etc.

If you know what you're doing and can free up all the adjusters first, you could probably knock a hunded off that...
