I'm currently waiting for some parts to be ordered for my car to fix some waraanty issues but curious to know what type of courtesy cars that are normally given out at OPC's?

Are the courtesy cars usually some type Porsche and is the Insurance done via the OPC or do you need to sort it from your own Insurance company?

I know I've had some problems in the past from some of my previous Insurance companies that will not insure Courtesy cars above a certain value.

Love to hear you experiences with your local OPC's relating to the cars that you have received and the Insurance on these vehicles

Depends on the OPC - this has been covered on here before. They all CAN do another Porsche, but some also have VWs on their fleet (Hatfield being one, and presumably the other Porsche UK owned dealerships). Cambridge gave me a £100k 12 plate Panamera S Hybrid a few weeks ago, though had promised me a 981 Boxster which is what I'd rather have had.

In the past I have had a Boxster and a Cayenne as a loan car.

Insurance was always a point for discussion as normally the OPC and your insurer will not want to take liability.

Depends on your relationship with the dealer tabs how good their customer service is, however GB owned OPCs appear to have a fleet of VeeDubs not by choice.

It's Porsche Centre Newcastle that I'm getting the work done at.

I also live 45 miles away so that's a 90 mile return trip and I did read that there is a 100 mile limit somewhere but not sure if this is correct.

I didn't buy my car there as they didn't have the model I wanted in stock when I was looking, so can't comment on the relationship issue as I'm relatively new to Porsche ownership.

I've had a 997 C2S PDK cabrio, a Cayman PDK and 981S PDK from OPC Silverstone. And an Astra when my Boxster broke down on a Sunday!

I've never been that far up north so cant recommend any OPC in the area hOwever just call and ask which loan cars are available for the period and state your preference. I think the limit is 100 miles per day and you return the car with same level of fuel. Test out their customer service smile

Cambridge never mentioned a limit on the phone, but in the end I only had the car for an evening and didn't do many miles. They did, however, drop the Courtesy Car at my house and pick up my Cayman at the same time - and vice versa when returning my car. Very convenient.

Perhaps OP wanted to gauge what people normally get and then see what he gets in comparison.

I got boggy stty a-class merc last time. That's as good as it gets at the local garage.

Asked to drive 981 as test drive, but couldn't even do that. Not even bothered to follow up request.

Depends what they have I guess. First couple of times I used OPC Bristol I got a 1 series BMW (Dick Lovett is also has the BMW franchise next door), however recently I've tended to get something a bit better. Last time I got a brand new Panamera Diesel which was surprisingly good.

wasn't aware of any mileage limits, but last time I had to pay a nominal amount per mile to cover fuel rather than topping up the tank... But I don't remember it being much.

I got a Diesel Passat with a massive crack in the windscreen when my Cayman was serviced at Guildford earlier in the year.......I presume a ploy to make the make you forget the silly bill when you get back into your own car a couple of days later and realise how good it is!!

When I book the car in, instead of saying "what loan cars do you have", I always say "I would like to borrow..." - if you don't ask, you don't get. Or something.

I've had a Boxster, Cayman & C2s from Reading. They actually asked me what I wanted on one ocassion. I did drive off with the service supevisors grubby Passat estate once, a the Cayman they had me down for wasn't around. They drove over to my house about an hour later with a brand new C2S PDK!

Might ask if this is an option for them to drop the car off. Never thought that drop off and pick up were an option and will also ask what is available as I'd love to try out a new 991. If in the event I do get a nice Porsche to drive round in, I will at least get some enjoyment from it.

I suspect it's good customer service and also dangling carrots in front of you will determine if you will return to the brand next time around.

Thanks all who have given positive responses

I had a Black '12 plate 991 C2S PDK, from Porsche Centre Newcastle about 6 weeks ago, and a White '61 plate 997 C2S about a week later.

Actually on this topic, anyone serviced their car at OPC Tonbridge? Dad's probably having the car serviced there within the month, and we both wondered what their courtesy cars were?
