looking for a 3.6 Carrera 2 and have seen one at an OPC which has an "Engine Upgrade kit - 235KW". Does anyone know what is involved with this?, and how much it cost as an extra when new.

Cheers

235 kW is 315 bhp by my calcs. The standard C2 was either 272 or 286 bhp, depending whether it had the varioram, so it represents a nice little hike in output.

Don't know what this option involved (though I could hazard a guess) nor its cost unfortunately.

assuming it is a 993 ? the factories engine upgrade for the 993 was to fit the 3.8 lump out of the 993RS giving 300bhp. The 993 cup cars were running at about 310-315 bhp...

This may well be the usual aftermarket, exhaust, filter, chip type of thing...If you are interested i would get it on a proper din rated rolling road to see what it is actually putting out in terms of power

X51 is the non turbo upgrade. x50 on the TT.

Sorry, should have made myself clearer-it's on an 02 996. Sounds a nice extra to have but the other options on the car are'nt as desirable as another I'm looking at.

thanks for the replies.

Curious,a standard 2002 996 will have 316bhp anyhow as standard!

The X51 optioned car was supposed to have 345bhp....if you look under the front lid or service book at the options fitted to the car X51 should be listed if it is on the car.

I only know of one C2 with X51 it was silver and sold by riverdale it was lovely but sold before I could make up my mind.
There are quite a few C4Ss with the 345bhp engine as the AFN dealer principle was keen on them unfortunatly his tast in colour/trim was shal we say flamboyant.
The x51 option is only avalable as a manual as it uses a strengthend box, also had extra oil pumps new head and inlet.
Realy desirable IMHO on a C2 with sports suspention even more so but steep as an option nearly 7K.On a C4s
it feels great on a C2 my guess would be that it is blinding.

The one I noticed is at Wilmslow OPC, you can find it using the Used Car serach on the Porsche web site.

It looks realy nice not my first choice of colour but it has most other bits it says sports chasis but it looks to be riding quite high so maby query that? For me the two things missing are GT3 wheels and a sports exhaust they would swap the wheeles as part of the deal and a sports exhaust is £1200 at 52 it looks good to me even with the milege. All just personal tast of corse.

If you are realy keen on the X51 option all of the 40th anneversary car have it however for me I would need a new set of rims to replace those shiny chrome things until I sold it on. Could you live with the narrow body C4s nose hybread?? there are 6 or 7 on the OPC network.

My Local OPC is getting one in, 02 996 3.6 Carrera 2 in Arctic, with PCM, PSM and Sports classic wheels for me to look at early next week. The only option that I wanted which it doesn't have are the Litronics.
Look forward to trying it.

Sounds cool love to hear how you get on, Litronics are good but so are the standard lights these days.
Artcic is my top colour at the moment and that is lucky as there are plenty about!

Sounds like the guy is just refering to it being a facelift with the increased engine size & power over pre-facelift. The standard C2 facelift is quoted at 235kw. The X-51 engine upgrade added around another 25 horses for £6k-ish extra!!
