Been offered a fairly good deal, no roll cage in the GT3, not to keen on that but can probably get one fitted.
OPC seems good.

Thoughts?

I didn't realise the roll cage was a delete option!

Having had a 996 GT2, a F430, and now a GT3RS 3.8 I can say do it. They are night and day above the GT2 and the F430, but don't take my word for it. There are quite a lot on the market, go and drive one, you won't look back.

Dont do it ...... GT2 is a very special car

You could regret it and spend months trying to buy another one ......

Only driven 997 GT2 at PEC Silverstone. I found it a bit point and squirt (as a novice). 3.8 RS though - best car I have ever driven.

You're right, it is. I loved mine.

Not a patch on the RS.2 though.

Roll cage is part of the Club Sport package I think so a fair few GT3s wont have it. No bad thing really. Adds a little stiffness that I doubt you'd ever really notice and a fair bit of extra weight. (Likewise)

If you intend to track it then the cage is more useful for harnesses etc but the inconvenience is probably not worth it.

You're thinking of the 'standard' GT3. No clubsport package in the RS, cage is standard, but apparently deleteable.

Why on earth would you delete it?

Don't do it.
You'll regret it one day trust me, the GT2 in 996 form is just such a rare car.

Perhaps they forgot to refit the cage when they re-shelled the car?

Seriously though, why would an RS not have one?

80% Yes so far.

Weren't all the US RS's delivered without a cage?

Well it adds weight, inconvenience and is a bit OTT for the road. Having said that its kind of "part" of the ethos of a GT3 i would say.

Grey one at Leeds? (used to be at Porsche newcastle) only one I've seen without cage.

It's entirely down to what you want from the car. I love GT3s but all of the cars I've been in have felt a bit underwhelming compared to the GT2. I'd try a 997 GT2, I did infact, and bought one.

Love it, but want a normally aspirated screamer, not bothered about straight line speed.

long time no speak Ash ...

RS.2 is wonderful, I say go for it if you fancy a change and want something to really drive. Very different to a 430 which is a wonderful road loafer/posemobile with very nice plush handling (think of it as a big exige) and an engine that is just as satisfying, perhaps even more so esp. when it comes to the sonics. After a 430 if you get into an RS you will barely be able to even hear it. A little shallow to drive at 10/10ths though compared to the depths of the mighty RS though. All imho.
