Hi guys,

Quick question, who did you use for a PPI? Anyone you would recommend? And does Porsche offer a service?

I've heard when buying a 996 turbo a PPI is vital along with an over-rev check? Anything else blatant I should know about?

If you can check paperwork yourself - not hard - any good indie or OPC can do a PPI.
The more you learn the more you can guide them on what is important to you.

My PPI was done by my indie before purchase and he has serviced it ever since.

I spent 6 months reading up on Porsches (info from here, 991uk.com, Rennlist) whilst looking at cars.
Went through 9 before I found the "right" one.

Got Peter and Craig at GT-One in Chertsey to look over it.
Then Peter contacted me for a verbal low-down of the car - a very thorough 1-hour long phone call with me frantically writing everything down, whilst he explained in meticulous detail what they had done and looked out for.

No detail was too small.
A full written report is on the way too, but the information gave me the confidence to pursue the purchase further.
All for £270-odd.

FWIW, Porsche do a 111(?)-point check, but I don't feel that it's as thorough as a good PPI.

TBH, I was sceptical about having a PPI, but I figured that I needed to know EVERYTHING about the car, and pretty much had my initial thoughts confirmed, but also had a few other aspects noted that I couldn't have found out with a driveway inspection of the car.

And it gave me the bargaining tools to discuss the sale price...... so in essence, the PPI paid for itself anyway smile

Not sure how practical/cost effective it is to inspect the condition of the IMS bearing, which is the most important thing I would really want to know about.
