Just got my Fabspeed Supercup exhausts fitted to my 993.

Bloody hell are they loud From idle to around 2000 rpm, it sounds like a TVR V8 with sports pipes. From there onwards, it's racing car loud.

Over the top? Absolutely. Too much is never enough?? Absolutely

One thing to those contemplating the pipes after seeing the promo video on the Fabspeed website: they are MUCH louder in reality than the video makes out. They are, however, very good quality, very well made and very easy to fit. The pipes bolt onto the standard brackets, and use the standard O-ring and clamp to connect to the cat output flange. They are also visually inconspicuous - a simple slash cut stainless pipe on each side is not too different to OEM.

A nice benefit to the pipes is the large reduction in mass - the OEM silencers are very heavy. I reckon a good 10-15 kg is lost by using the new pipes.

There's a lot of boomy resonance at low revs, but steady throttle motorway stuff is quiet enough not to be a pain. Accelerating and decelerating in town makes a LOAD of noise, hee hee. Pops and bangs on the overrun aplenty when the engine is fully warm as well....

No doubt I'll really piss someone off eventually as there are some pretty intolerant people out there. Other than that, the only issue I really have with them is that I'm going to have all sorts of trouble getting onto track days.....

Ahhh, engine NVH and sound quality- one of my favourite topics!

Being a fan of the sound of a BMW straight six on open pipes and having come from a 928 V8 my personal benchmarks were set quite high.

I had misgivings about how a 911 sounded, especially a boosted one, because it's well known that the turbo dampens out the pleasant sounding pulses of the exahust. A Purists engine is always a fully balanced 2 valver-revving engine with large cam durations- from a sound quality point of view.
The misgivings of the 911 sound came from Nick Maisons CD of various racing car engine noises where the racing Flat sixes sounded like chainsaws....
If anything the early ones sounded rawer and less restrained.

I was made to eat my words however , when I purschased my 993 TT with Gemballa rear pipes. Subsequently I watched a video of various Porsche 956s lapping various tracks with Derek Bell driving. The noise is incredible! Infact I think my 993 with the new exhaust sounds much like a 956 in character! The sound of my 993 TT is very very deep and boomy at low revs, My cruel collegue at work says it sounds a bit like a "gargling drain". When you rev it out a bit the deep menacing undertone continues and is accompanied by a whine, which could either be the cooling fan ( WITHOUT curved blades on the Turbos for more efficient cooling but less quieter) or the Turbos I'm not sure. It's an addictive and intoxicating blend and the Turbos don't dampen out the lovely engine order driven noise from the exhaust. It's a very different noise to a tuned/racing BMW straight six, less crisp, less pure, but much more muscular and more agressive!

You can buy mine off me if you like I'm replacing them with something slightly quieter - they are unfortunately too loud for track days. They sound absolutely wonderful though...

Ninemeister recommended the Cargraphic 'supersound' silencers so I'm going to try those. By the way - any particular reason for the 'rolleyes' on your post??
