BMC or K and N ?

BMC filter going in today. Still need an answer to, should i leave the plastic filter/mesh out as it keeps falling to the bottom of the filter box? or should I glue it in?
The plastic 'filter' as you call it is in fact a flow straightener for the MAF. Under no circumstnaces should this item ever be removed from the intake. It doesn't restrict the air-flow in any way (it's been made sufficiently large to ensure this is the case) so there's nothing to be gained. What will happen, if you remove it, is the MAF will mis-read the amount of air going into the engine - you'll no doubt be aware of all the major issues this will cause.maxpaul said:
Wow Ian thanks for that information.
Could it have been this that has been causung all my problems with ABS and PSM lights to come on when driving hard?
Hope so and may update other threads if it is the case
Paaul.
It will be intriguing to see if this is the cause of any issues you've been having. As suggested above, it would defnitely be a good idea to clean the MAF sensor in isopropyl alcohol too. Any build-up of crap or contamination on the sensor will cause the engine to run lean.Could it have been this that has been causung all my problems with ABS and PSM lights to come on when driving hard?

Once you've repaired the flow straightener and cleaned the MAF, disconnect your battery negative terminal for a couple of hours too. This will reset all the adaptation parameters in the ECU to factory. The ECU will then re-learn and re-adapt quickly when you first use the car again.
I'd be interested to know how you get on.
