996 TT Depreciation
Discussion
Hi all,
I am about to start a search for a 996 TT after doing some math and figuring out that they are now in my price range. I have been quite surprised at the range of prices that the cars are coming in at, with Pistonheads showing absolutely basement entry at £20k and rising to £45k. Obviously the extremes in pricing have their reasons (I suspect the bargain basement prices come at the expense of condition), however I was hoping to get your views on future depreciation.
Much as it pains me to admit it, but I probably should consider boring things like resale value when I am looking to spend £30k on a car. Given that prices seem to be, on average, around £28-30k, where do you think they will level out? If I buy in the next few months do you think it is likely (and I appreciate no-one here can see the future) I will find that the market will have dropped dramatically if I decide to sell up in 12 months time?

I've been watching for the last year or so and I feel if anything prices have firmed a little.
I don't think the bottom has dropped and the half decent mid 20s cars are fairly similarly priced.
I looked at a 68k 02 manual model priced at 23K a year ago and I'd say a similar car would be priced about there now.
In a years time - who knows.

I'm prepping mine for sale after running out of time to acquire a replacement for euro trip earlier this year I'm back out looking to replace with a Turbo S or GT2. It's heading to OPC for Major Service in October and will probably be up end of October after a detailing. PM me if you want spec / details.

To heck with forecasting Turbo prices in the future. Focus on the stock market, commodities, house prices, the next World Cup match, the National Lottery.I am about to start a search for a 996 TT after doing some math and figuring out that they are now in my price range. Really, just find a good car, buy it at what your research tells you is at a market price, take care of the car and keep records and whatever depreciation the car suffers will be less than other cars in which all or even some of the above was not done.
Plus you get to drive a Turbo. Bonus!
Sincerely,
Rockster.
