Help please: what radio/CD was originally fitted to 993?
Discussion
Gents
please can you help. I'm in the process of returning my 993RS to completely original spec and the key eyesore is a Kenwood radio/single-CD unit. I want to replace this with either:
1. the radio/single-CD unit that was originally available for 993s, presumably a Becker or a Blaupunkt unit
OR
2. a Becker / Blaupunkt radio/single-CD unit that looks period correct but has and Aux input so I can play my iPod through it
does anyone know the answer to 1. or have any suggestions for 2. ??
very grateful for any help
cheers

When I was pdi'ing them they came through without radio kit and had a blank trim instead. We had a tie-up with Sony and fitted the cdx range of headunits....
Nav was available as a very expensive option - the antenna was painted body colour and mounted on the outside under the wiper spindles!
Becker units obviously fit but the angle of the 993 dash made the LCD screen of the CR range hard to see. For what it's worth my personal favourite was the Porsche CD10 a bit early for 993 and they weren't particularly reliable then so not sure whether there are any left
For a list of really early sets check:

PET lists CR10, Blaupunkt Bremen/London

The original radio cassette for the 993 was the CR 210, The Radio CD player was the CDR 210, expect to pay around £100 for the CR 210 & £250 for the CDR 210, Porsche breakers are your best chance, try prestige salvage at Leeds, they had some in last time I looked, good luck with the search.
My understanding is the same as Pope's : UK cars had stereos fitted at the dealer rather than factory and different dealers made different choices. European cars, certainly German ones, had the Porsche units mentioned above.
If it was UK delivered and you want it factory spec it's a blanking plate!
