Anybody know this 996TT for sale, and some PPI questions
Discussion
Hi,
Anybody happen to know this car for sale in Wadsley Bridge (Sheffield):
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...
I would like to get a PPI done, there is a Porsche dealer within 5 miles of the seller but the nearest independent is 30+ miles. Would a Porsche PPI be ok, I am thinking it will be less thorough and I will not be able to have them dig as deep into the cars condition, past accident history etc as an indy
Thanks for any help
Simon

Thanks for the suggestion of Peter Morgan, I would happily pay the price they charge if the car was what I had my heart set on. Shame its 6hrs from me. I am told the Gt3 wheels were optioned from the factory and appear on the paperwork but I haven't been able to get a copy of it yet.
Thanks for the responses

Personally having had a Peter Morgan PPI report on a car that went really wrong i would ask exactly what is included in the PPI.
The test drive was.............
"following the seller for some 6-7 miles, more than allowed him to gauge the engine from an external viewpoint . the length of the test drive at over 3 miles was comparable in scope and length to any inspection we conduct"
Those are Peters words not mine the car also didnt exceed 40mph !
Other things were missed and if you read the small print Peter Morgan is only ever liable to refund the cost of the PPI.
In my case he offered to repay half, quite how badly a PPI has to be to warrant a full refund i shudder to think.
Perhaps they just had a bad day but its the new owner that picks up the big bills if they do get it wrong.

Are the GT3 wheels the same rim widths and correct offsets (no mention of spacers fitted) as the turbo wheels, being from a narrow boddied car?
Or are they from a GT2?
There's actually a third option - these wheels also came in the correct fitment/size for the turbo, but looking at the back wheel, I don't think this is them.Or are they from a GT2?
The 996TT looks tough on GT3 wheels, I would like to find one that had these factory fitted but that would be lucky.
[quote=churnyProbably the best PPI there is, and why forums like this are great places to exchange info.
Good luck Mondie searching for your next car.

Eric,
I was contacted by someone who knows the car and made aware of some potential issues, that was enough for me to look elsewhere.
I see... I had similar experiences in the past with Porsches (when I looked for a gt2 was the worst: so many lemons).I was contacted by someone who knows the car and made aware of some potential issues, that was enough for me to look elsewhere.
I decided over the years to take a different approach to buying these cars: rather than to look at the cheapest ones, I went contrarian and started looking at the most expensive ones (that I could afford of course) and get them inspected by guys I trust (John Manning at Porsche Reading among others). You end up with a nicer car to start with, less things to fix (sometimes bottom-less money pits), easier to resale.
