Anyone use this fuel in there Porsche? Never used it before, always use V Power. Any reason why I shouldn't use it?

Yeah it's fine.
Personally prefer shell or bp premiums but wouldn't hesitate to use momentum if its there.

possibly doesn't have the same level of cleaning additive's added by the likes of Shell, BP etc. hence difference in cost.

Yup, i tend to alternate between V-power and Tesco's 99. No discernable difference in performance tbh.

I use it on my Cayman S, though tend toward V-Power - either/or though, both feel fine.

Nothing wrong with Momentum, its second only to Vpower, and then not by much

When I got my car last year I started off using Tesco fuel but I've since persuaded myself that it runs slightly better on V-Power.

IIRC, All Shell V-Power comes from a specific Shell refinery oop-north (?Runcorn), whereas supermarkets source fuel from different regional suppliers. Hence the consistency from Supermarket fuel may not be as good as V-Power.

And is V Power generally preferred to BP Ultimate?

I've found bp to be fine. Almost as good as shell. And IMO slightly better than tesco.

Been using Tesco 99ron for a couple of months now and the car feels better for it then even v-power, though think they are much the same! Would probably use Shell v-power as preference but as they keep closing down their garages leaving me with an incredibly knackered station with unreliable/slow pumps, or a motorway services costing ten times more!!!!

Almost........Stanlowsmile

Recently taken over by an Indian group called Essar Energy. Whether this means an end or increase in price to V-power????

Did no one see the Fifth Gear test?

In short Vpower and Esso is best!

BP Ultimate was no better than Asda cheap rubbish!

No wonder everyone on here bashes the BP fuel!
But honestly I have used it recently and it was fine - TRY IT! Maybe they have changed since that test!

There was a recent test in the car mags with all the brands and a E60 M,5 which had tesco 99 producing the most power and almost the best fuel consumption.

However a quick trawl of Internet reveals most mags etc seem to recommend Vpower due its cleaning properties. I use Vpower in the Porsche and tesco 99 in race car. Cannot notice the power difference but definitely stops engine knocking according the hp scanner I have recording the engine parameters on track.

With the modern Porsche you can add upto 10% ethanol which will bring up the RON to 100 at least (5 points ish) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating. It will also increase power if you retune for the mix - since the air fuel ratio is different. It has less energy but the ratio is higher (around 6:1 rather than 12.8:1 for my race car) therefore more fuel means more power (53k v 67k btu) However with only 10% allowed (damages engines if more than 10% used) the power gain is negligible and really is used to remove detonation problems.

Note that thought ethanol is cheaper, it apparently reduces fuel comsumption by 30/40% and it is likely there is already ethanol or methanol in 99 or Vpower so be careful what you add and check it's purity if you go down this route!

So I think both are ok

Was wondering when someone would mention that test - not exactly scientific, but useful nonetheless.
I know someone who uses Asda standard in his Lambo.

No, I'm not kidding.

V-Power or Tesco 99 work fine in the old GT3 - but after using a tank of "normal" fuel (emergencies only) the throttle response and low rev pickup does seem a little flatter ... frown

Anyone ever tried any of these "Octane Boosters" and do they work?
