As I am based in France the dealerships and specialists locally are quoting me 2500 euros, clutch/flywheel etc - typically 1500 euros parts including tax and between 8 - 11 hours work. Is it worth driving back to the UK?

Seriously for that price you can have a SACH890 clutch fitted and still have change!

The official Porsche replacement clutch, disk and mechanism is around 910 euros, I have been quoted 800 but have to check the manufacturer, the sachs SRE performance clutch kit not including shipping is 954 euros. I don't track, the car is standard - is it worth it? What is the difference?

A standard clutch will come to around £1200 - 1300 + VAT fitted at any sensibly priced indie in the UK, the 890nm clutch is around £300 more.

Unless you are planning on upgrades, a std clutch will be fine, maybe a GT2 clutch?

Ok 1300GBP + VAT at todays exchange rate is around 2000 euros. I have just received a quote of 2050 euros from an indie (2500 for OPC and another indie), but the price of the clutch is about 25% less than the official Porsche price - I have to check what he uses. Looking like it is not worth the hassle to come back to the UK to have it done..

For info: two quotes from OPC's, 2500 and 3000 euros with the differences in the cost of the parts(?) hourly rates 96/98 euros per hour. Specialists between 60 and 75 euro per hour.

That's very odd for two opcs to have so wildly different quotes, especially on parts!

Don't think they would get away with it in uk.

OK it's in at the local specialist for 2000 euros. Phone call and images sent today, needs a new clutch master cylinder too, it is leaking. Also the aircon is leaking from a seal.... So up to 2700 now....

I hope this is the last for a few years... 7000 euros in 6000km is not good on the wallet and hard to justify when you need a new Kitchen.

Isn't the gt2 and 996tt clutch the same part number now from Porsche?

No, 996tt now use and have done for some time a X50 clutch kit.

The Gt2 has same pressure plate and release bearing but different centre friction disc. It is solid mounted with no damping springs.
