3 year old 996TT with Porker original battery not holding charge. When ignition on it nicely sits in the 12-14 amp range. If I lock up (set alarm) and do not use the car for 6 days when I start the battery is completely dead - happened twice now. Obviousely I have considered a new battery but is this not unusual ? Suggest a short ? Manual says red flasing LED switches off after 5 days to save the battery ? Does a standing car really use so much power ? Any suggestions before I fork out on a new battery ?

As I understand it the pork is supposed to go into 'sleep' mode to save juice if you don't use the car for 72 hrs (think it's 72?) - I just came back after 3 days away and had to use the key to get in - remote was de-activated. Perhaps the sleep mode bit has gone awol? (just a thought).

Sounds like failed cells on the battery. One of the only faults I have had on mine. Get a new one.

I had this happen to mine again & again despite two new batteries, initially they blamed a tracking system, but eventually they found a faulty earth strap that was causing the problem, it's been fine since then. I hope it is just a faulty battery, you can easily get that tested, but if it happens again ask your dealers to check for excess drain on the battery, they know what the standard current draw should be.

Sounds like a similar problem to the one I had. It turned out to be a dead / faulty cell in the Porsche battery. I had it replaced and it did the same thing again within 3 weeks. I have been told there is a design flaw in the official Porsche battery which means it can be killed by running it too low. I now have a BOSCH and haven't had a problem since (touch-wood).
