Hey Guys

I've got an urge to go on a decent road trip before I tuck my car up for winter and am taking my CR up to Wales next Monday / Tuesday.

Route I've planned is linked below:

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=20621422676...

I was wondering if anyone else in the Porsche forum has done the trip, legs of it or has recommendations on the route? I have driven bits or touched on parts of the route but just needed to check if there were issues with ground clearance or bad surfacing or anything that might need to be taken account of.

I'll post a number of pictures when I'm back in appreciation of any help.

Thanks

Mutt

You're missing some cracking roads from there. My general hint for Wales would be to stay well if the primary routes and stick to secondary A or plain old B roads. For instance, driving up the coast through Aberystwyth misses the whole of Mid Wales, which has some cracking roads.

It looks to me like you're heading straight to North Wales missing out literally hundreds of decent miles of road on the way.

I'd agree, do some more homework me thinks, zoom in a little on yhe map and check the more minor B roads; also stay off the A5. Everytime I've ever driven it around Shrewsbury its been traffic and/or speed vans.

Thanks guys. I need to be in North Wales in the evening for 8pm as I have a meeting hence the northern bias. I'll leave from Conwy in the morning and need to be back in London very late evening.

I've got a bunch of little legs which I've picked off the forum but I'm trying to knit them together into something that works as a trip.

What I had wanted to do was get a general sense of main routes and then maybe explore off those main legs. Return leg coming across from Brecon needs some work I think and that's what I'm doing now.

Drop the M6 and try to make your way out on the M4 Severn Bridge then via the A470 north of Abergavenny to Builth Wells and then A483 Newtown to Welshpool and from there onto the Bala highlight. This'll give you a great flavour of mid-Wales. Usually nice and clear. Superb road surfaces.

That's a lot of tiring twisting and turning so take some long breaks in lovely scenery and enjoy a nice lunch.

Thanks BnB, really appreciate the tips. I've got a sweet route planned out now. Taken a few days planning. Pictures to follow...
