Saw a Red Porsche 924 Carrera GT-s with a Kremer sticker on the back on the way up to silverstone on the A34 Newbury By-pass. (and then again in the silverstone car park).

I think it was an (old) V plate, Looked beautiful, flared Arches, big fat tyres and kind of aero kit on it including faired in headlights and massive rear spoiler.

Is this a Factory car, if not the finish was perfect and are they rare?

Car was fitted with roll cage and auxilary gauges and dials inside.

Is it a member's car? someone must know who owns it.

Thanks in advance.

~ Paul

edit - yes, it's a 924, not 944 and I know I've spelt Carrera wrong.

Sounds like a 924GTS. They look a bit like 944s. Yes, they are factory cars - quite rare. If you're going to get a 924, might as well be that one

924GTS is inded a rare old thing, the hotter version of the 924 Carrera GT, not got the figs to hand but not many of them about, Derek Bell usd to have one & I think still has, so it 'might' have been him!

GTR is the one you really want to try & spot! 375bhp in race trim dont think any were ever any GTR road cars tho.

I always wanted a 924 Carrera GT, i went to look at one 12 years ago to buy and couldn't do it, whether it was that particular car I don't know but the turbo lag was like waiting for xmas to come.

I recall reading that Lord March (Goodwood) ran a black 924 carrera GT for many years as his daily
driver.

Things move on and he now has a Carrera GT, but i doubt somehow it his daily driver

Aha found the figs, 59 GTS made, all left hookers & all in red (posibly half that left now ) & 15 were clubsports= 1060kg- lovely jubbly & not to shabby with 245bhp(*)

Ive always lusted after one, dog leg gearbox & all

Edited to add-

(*) actually I 'think' the clubspots had a diferent engine spec to the regular 245bhp GTS, but I dont know any details- bet Thom does tho!

Was it LHD (a real one), or RHD (a copy)?

IIRC the clubsports had around 285 bhp and roll cage.

Read it somewhere in the internet so it must be true.

There was a red RHD replica for sale a couple of weeks back for an unbelievable £1500. It was fully caged up and running on split rims. Only thing I dont know is whether it was based on a 924 turbo or a boggo 924?

It could have been that one?

this was a perfect rep. (other than rear wing) by the looks. proper wheels and everything, paint was in good condition, maybe recently done. I doubt this car would have gone for that little, but I may be wrong.

Iggy, danke für die Blumen ...

59 924 Carrera GTS made, 245 bhp stock or 275 bhp in "Club Sport" trim, 1121 kg for both version, apparently.

19 924 Carrera GTR made, 375 bhp, 945 kg, 180 mph ... but extracted from a VW camper van engine, so please don't ask about reliability.

Apparently the 924 GTP that ran at Le Mans in '82 actually used the 944 engine in modfied form (turbo 16v) putting out 420bhp and finished 7th overall.

The three GTRs that ran in Le Mans in 1980 and finished 6th, 12th and 13th had 320 bhp and weighed 930 kg.

Four GTRs were entered in the '81 Le Mans, they had 375 bhp. Three were customer cars : one failed to qualify, another one broke the gear box after 2 hours and the third finished 11th.
The factory car called 924 GTP LM finished 7th, driven by Barth and Röhrl . It actually was the prototype of the 944 with the 2.5 engine with balancer shafts.

I have to admit the Le Mans 924/944 cars fascinate me and I would bloody well love to know where any of them reside now.

I belive that the 81 cars will be eligible for the Classic Le Mans in 2006 (is the rule 25 years old?) and I really, really, really, really, really hope one of them makes it out of the woodwork.

I bet they don't though
