Does anyone know how long it takes to get it activated when you pick up a brand new Porsche?

Checking my insurance, I am not covered for loss or damage due to theft unless I have a working tracker with an active subscription. According to the vague info from the OPC, they "fill some forms in and send them off when you pick up the car".

Apart from being vague, this worries me because I am collecting the car on a Friday and if they send the forms off that day, presumably Cobra won't do anything with them until Monday at best, maybe Tuesday or later.

Potentially I could lose £80k if I got the car nicked over the weekend. Unlikely though it may be, this is a completely unacceptable risk IMHO.

Does anyone know how the whole process works? Can you ring Cobra from the OPC when you collect the car and get it up and running before you drive off?

Any advice greatly appreciated. Surely I can't be the first person to ever come across this problem?

I don't think you need to worry (I didn't, mind you I was probably too excited anyway). Raise your concern to your salesman. I know I had to pay the £205 on the day I picked mine up. I would imagine they'll ring Cobra then. And try not to ever forget your fob as it DOES work. Don't leave it in the car. And finally, enjoy the car!

Get the OPC to send you a copy of the Cobra paperwork, phone Cobra give them the relevant details including your mobile Phone number & maybe a landline number. Pay for your subscription £200 & odd pounds over the phone and it should be activated in a few hours. They will send you a text when it's all up & running.
Hope this helps

Just check it works by driving it without the Fob in it ( after you have filled in contact numbers on the reg form obviously )

Mine seems to get a test about every 6 months or so when i drive up the road to dry off the brakes after washing the car only to get home and the wife rolls her eyes and says Can you ring Cobra !

Cobra/VTS perform automatic monthly checks the system is working properly.

My car is kept in a garage and now and again I receive a letter suggesting they're having problems connecting with the car, can I please have a drive around to make sure it's talking to base.

Ensure the dealer has submitted all the paperwork in advance of collection. I insisted on them confirming in writing that the tracker was activated and would be active from when I drove off the forecourt. No issues and I tested it by driving off having left the fob at home. Wasn't as instant as I would have expected it to be but they did call me to see if the car had been stolen.

As it happens, COBRA had made a mistake with the registration in the system and had me as an LZ plate versus an LX plate. Something they should have picked up on as there is no such thing as an LZ prefix. The dealer sorted it out for me but communication from COBRA on resolution of the issue was non-existent. They said it wasn't a problem but as I pointed out, if the car was stolen and they were looking for the wrong vehicle, it damn well would have been a very big problem.

What irritates me is that COBRA do a more advanced tracker than what Porsche offer but if you install it, it'll invalidate the warranty. Make sure you only use Porsche approved air in your tyres as well. :-)

is the £200 fee to Cobra a life time, annual or some other period fee?
