I've just come from one of the big American Porsche forums and I have to say I'm horrified at the level of stupidity displayed by some, not all, of the members.

They seem to think that every tiny fault or difference between cars is cause for panic and a legal battle and they are incapable of listening to anyones point of view if it doesn't match their own!

There seems to be a real hardcore group of doom and gloomers that are convinced their cars will blow up at any minute, slag Porsche off at every turn but yet still run one!

Has anyone else had a similar experience with these forums?

Where there is blame there's a claim. wink

Have a look on the Ferrari forums in the US whenever anyone asks if they could afford to run one. The answers would have you believe you've got to be a zillionairre to even stand a chance of putting one in your garage and then actually driving it. tongue out

What I don't understand is why a base 991 Carrera cost $82k in the USA and £71k in the UK ($113k) - so we are being charged 38% more than the USA even though the car does not need to travel so far......

Base car is 183k$ in Finland and the reason is that state wants all of our money.

They can be very precious, girlie and easily upset.
And totally lacking any sense of humour.

The thing I notice more than anything about the US forums are the plethora of people who'll willingly strap on a turbo or god knows what else onto their normally aspirated Porsche.

I just don't understand that, you have no end of other cars out there that are designed from the start to be turbocharged and quick in a straight line(Porsche even make one themselves, the turbo), why compromise?

I also think their choice of wheels, especially on 993's are extremely dubious. They do like the Japanese look.

I actually find them quite refreshing - they aren't pedantic about how 'original' the cars need to be, happier to try different things like new wheels etc. That's not my thing, but I do like the fact they seem more open to changing / modding things.

Come to think of it - that is perhaps more of the original Porsche spirit, think of 356 outlaws etc.

The UK Porsche warranty seems to have made everyone here overly cautious about changing anything. Shame.

Absolutely, they seem to modify everything from engines to stereos and ask the most random questions!

I'm glad it's not just me that's seen it!

Fair point!

I don't have an issue with the British forums, they seem a lot more balanced and, on the whole, a lot more informative, despite people correcting accidental spelling mistakes every so often! Lol

I bet the warranty thing has got a lot to do with it.

I'm not a massive worrier about originality but taste has to play a part?

Wouldn't disagree with that - there are some absolute shockers out there and I do like an OEM looking car - BUT do like a bit of variety about! Otherwise we'd all be driving around in silver or black 911s... hang on...

This exactly...

I for one find the US forums a great resource for open thinking, it's a shame so many people in the UK get stuffy about making modifications
