retrofitting parking sensors
Discussion
I know that the official Porsche Park Assist cannot be retrofitted as "the loom does not exist, sir!". So assuming that I don't care too much about the Porsche g'tee but the future buyer of my car may, I am ruling out the kits that require 4 new sensors to be put into the rear bumper as it would then be impossible to return the car to standard for the 111-point check.
I have come across http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/... which may require one small hole behind the number plate. It seems to get good reviews from Auto Express.
Has anyone tried this in a Porsche?

Mine was done by an OPC mechanic working in his own time.
The cost was minimal, I can't remember totally, but it you tot up the cost of 4 sensors, the rear loom for the sensors, the control unit that sits under the passenger seat and the second loom which runs from the rear loom (sensors and No plate lights i think) to the front of the car, visiting the CU under the seat, the fuse board under the dash and finally terminating behind the clocks, plus a couple of hours labour and PWIS programming you wont be far wrong. He knew what he was doing it and it all flew in.
I had already prepared the PU to take the sensors.

I've seen what look like that Halfords item and they never look nice (I'd rather risk the maybe getting slightly marked with a parking incident than deliberately disfiguring it permanently) and may still prove an issue on a 111 point check.
You can get a behind-bumper sensor kit where no holes are made at all. I think the sensor/s come as a long strip, which you need to removed the bumper to fit, and as usual it's then all wired into the reversing lights. I know Unit 11 www.unit11.co.uk have done a few of these but they don't sound hard for any decent garage to fit in an hour or two (or DIY).

I agree with Goose, the aftermarket kits which involve drilling your bumper and then sit proud as blisters look terrible, and the one i experienced didn't even work that well and made a particularly annoying bleep.
I personally would either retrofit with std Porsche parts, or as Goose says, fit a discreet one that doesn't involve drilling, or do nothing and learn to park like a man knowing the perimeters of your car!

My dad has just had the long sticky plastic sensor stuck on the inside of his Tiguan bumper and wired into reversing lights. I tried it out and it works well with the only problem being that when on full lock it sometimes gives out a bleep. It was around £80 and seems good value with nothing to be seen.
