Hang on - it could be on the hydraulic side - sticking piston in master or slave cylinder. Could even feasibly be a tight bearing needing a lube job at the pedal or the clutch operating lever.
Is your mate suffering from clutch slippage at all, e.g. when he gives it full beans in 3rd or 4th?

Heavy clutch pedal action on later generation Porsche is usually an early indication that the pressure plate is on the way out. Next symptoms will be occasional slip, then heavier pedal, then more slip. This then causes scoring to the flywheel and almost certainly doubles the cost of repair.
Poorcardealer was succinct in his answer [ "YES" ] but it is normally the case.
My advice is to get it done soon, get a respected independant to do it to save on the cost. Friction surfaces & related components are not warranty items so it cannot affect any current warranties by not having an OPC do it.

A friend...told his clutch is heavy.
Once told by an OPC that my front brake discs (911T) were shot and should be changed. Already knew this was b0110x. 10k miles of proper manly driving later, another test showed they were finally approaching book limits. Moral: OK the clutch may need lubing or it may need replacing but why not get a second independent opinion where significant moolah is involved.
